View Full Version : Adobe laptop crop, San Francisco/Las Vegas... questions inside!

We're planning out the remainder of 2011 for Scrap the Map (http://www.ScraptheMap.com) and we're considering having a crop in Las Vegas following Photoshop World (http://photoshopworld.com/) instead of at Adobe's headquarters (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=46784). Each year, members have to choose between the two, so we're considering consolidating this time. Nothing's certain, so this is just your chance for input!
Please read the links for info and save those questions for other threads, but share which you would prefer AND attend. If you can't come to either, let's save your vote for someone who will please. :)
Answers before you ask:
What do you mean by crop? Scrap the Map (http://www.scrapthemap.com/)
What is Photoshop World? How much does it cost? There's a FREE part?! Photoshop World (http://photoshopworld.com/)
What do you do at Adobe? Adobe's headquarters (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=46784)
For those of you considering Vegas, how does this sound? A cozy media suite for 25 people to scrap all night Friday SEPT 9? You could stay as late as you'd like Friday, or stay all night long! Yes, a scrapping slumber party! Cozy, less expensive, but fewer people.
Or would you prefer more people scrapping in Vegas, so the Saturday SEPT 10 following Photoshop World? Big, fun, but more expensive, and an extra hotel night expense.
Or would you prefer to go to Adobe's headquarters and scrap there at another time? Always fun, but more expensive (San Francisco hotels), plus a separate trip for those attending Photoshop World.
We'd love your input! The poll doesn't necessarily determine what we'll do, but we're working on the details from all angles. I'm sure wherever we end up, we'll have lots of fun!

Im hoping for the Slumber Party,Id love to scrap in a cozy place and be able to stay as long as we want and wear jammies.Scrapping after PSW sounds late and not enough time to scrap.Im not planning on PSW anyway.Hoping for the Slumber Party too.Years ago when I did traditional scrapping with paper......a bunch of us had an over night scrapping slumber party. It was a blast!!

As luck would have it, we can't get a conference room on Sat! We could move to a different hotel though, but wouldn't be able to stay at the same place as PSW. Still working...

The concert was amaaaazinggggg... it was him and Reba. It was incredibly long too!
And the 'Garden Arena' where the concerts are held there is pretty amazing, because no matter where you get seats at, none of them are actually awful. It's a large arena but not too large, and it's a nice set up.
As for the hotel, it's gigantic and I got lost manyyyyyy times!

Well I have never been to Vegas, but this seems like a good reason to go IF I could come up with the money somehow, which isn't likely, so I will refrain from voting. Thou I would LOVE to be there and Crop the night away.
On a side note... When I did more traditional scrapping we would rent a hotel conference room out and about 50 to 100 ladies would get rooms and spend the whole weekend scrapping. You could get up as early as you wanted or stay up as late as you wanted. Meals and snacks were included in the price you paid for the weekend and you could use any of the hotel amenities that you wanted, pool, gym, bar, whatever. Some ladies got a few pages done cuz they did more talking and socializing and others got as many as 75 pages done because they came in focused and sorted and ready to crop and knew what they wanted done. I was usually somewhere in between, about 40 pages. But what a Blast it was to gather and crop and have fun. I'm just saying...

I did traditional scrapping for about 6 years,we too did all week-end crops. We would stay up all night and scrap and eat and chat. Some might nap an hour in the middle of the night and get back up.We wore jammies and lounging pants and it was such a fun and relaxing atmosphere. We loved that we didnt have to look at the clock and worry about the time.Such a blast!! I hope you can join us in Vegas,if it happens:pray:

Speaking of M&M store.....
Monday after the sept 07 DSP Vegas crop Shawn and I went exploring. I drug him through Coca-cola World and the M&M World. After were done and outside Shawn basically crossed his arms, stomped his foot and said "Luxor Now" !! Was kinda funny to see a grown man(6'3" and 215lbs. At the time) pout!!!

Brenda, I havent made my reservations yet. I'm waiting for more details, too. Also my daughter will be coming home from Seoul in mid Sept. So I'm waiting to see her exact arrival date.
I will not be attending any of the PSW classes but maybe the free expo.
Debbie if you find any scrapping pjs be sure to let us know.
I would love to do some sight seeing while there. I think it would be cool to try and get some night shots of the Vegas lights. LOL, of course, someone knowledgeable about night shooting would need to be there to show me how!!!!

ok so the crop is tentatively at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, on the Saturday SEPT 10following Photoshop World.
Mandalay Bay: http://mandalaybay.com/default.aspx. Right now the room rates for that date are around $200 a night. Will you be getting a discounted block of rooms, Margie?
Photoshop world is here; http://photoshopworld.com/ and is about $600 for a full conference pass if you book early enough. You can book individual days....
I'm all about a slumber party :) we can have one here, debbie and I have scrapping jammies!

Margie - I know it says that we should "Please make your own hotel reservations as needed." I was just wondering, as Lynnie asked, if it would be possible to reserve a block of rooms so that we will be near each other? Or if there is a way to book rooms close to the media room??? Thanks!

Sorry, we won't be able to reserve a block of rooms for this one. IF you can show up at the same time, I'm sure they'll try to accommodate you though.

<< I think it would be rather difficult to see who is going to show up at the same time. Question? in order to get the cheaper price for room one has to be registered for the PhotoShop covention at what price range?I may do the free but not the other workshops.>>

I don't know that you have to be registered at all. I just started at the Photoshop World site and clicked on their room rates and was able to make reservations from that point. They never asked if I was registered for PSW.

HI Carolann,
Were the rates 129.00?
So do you recommend going through the PSW to make reservations at the hotel? I don't plan on doing PSW.

Yes. That is what I did. I am not yet registered for PSW because I am not sure how much of it I will be able to attend. So, I don't think they require you to be registered for PSW first....and the rate was 129.

Thanks for the tip Carol! I just want to try and find out where our DSP Media Suite is located before I make my hotel reservation. There are actually 2 separate hotel towers at the Mandalay Bay (& I believe the 2nd one is used primarily for coventions.) It's really quite a large hotel and there will be lots of walking if one goes to the Expo (even the free part), to the restaurants, if we go out for a photo walk, etc.
It would be really awesome if we could get the room number for that media suite! If it's reserved already, won't the hotel give use the room number? or at least tell us the area of the hotel or which tower? Carol or Margie - if you could get us that info., I'd be very appreciative! (I might even bring more chocolate! ;) )

<<Thanks for the info Carol and I have also read the other comments made. I think it would be a good idea to be as close as possible to the Media Room if possible. I really don't want to be on a floor too far away from the Media Room and also don't like being too far away from others. This would influence whether I would attend or not.>>
