Howdy all! I finally got started scanning some of my pictures that are printed...I had a question though...I am scanning my standard 4 x 6's at 600 dpi...i'm noticing that when I look at them at 100% they have a bunch of little white dots...I'm assuming that is b/c of the bumpiness of the paper? Is there a way to automatically fix these? i am using PSE2 (I also have album if that helps)
Thanks!!!
I don't know what it is, but I often have white flecks from lint! I have to clean the glass and dust the photos when scanning that high res.
As for cleaning, I know there are ways to fix it (try Noise>Despeckle or pray someone who knows finds this post!)
Check to see if everything's clean and scan again if needed.

Could be lint on the scanner or on the photo, I find that no matter what I do I always have stinkin lint! There are a million different ways to clean it up. I use psp but I hope some of the tools are similar. I have elements on my puter but have yet to touch it....how sad is that? I use a clone brush to get out flecks and somtimes the soften brush might work.
Ok I opened up the stinking program now psp has jelousy issues. You can go to Filter>Noise>Dust and scratch remover and that seemed to clear it up...despeckle worked too. It kind of left it a bit blurry so then I went to Filter>Sharpen and it seemed to make it look decent. I still prefer my clone though but it really can get time consuming that way.

this is quite common if the photos have a matte finish. I've had photos re-printed with a glossy finish just to avoid the dreaded white dots.
Neat Image will probably clean up the white dots.

This is what I use, these programs are awesome and work wonderful for my slide scans, ROC, SHO and GEM, They have different levels with pricing also you can download a demo, but it has a watermark.
