Problem with Fonts and old version Publisher

Ok, I don't think I have too many fonts!
In fact everything was fine, and I only added about 50 more fonts (after doing Tina's Word Art class), and all my programs work fine with the additional fonts except my old version of Publisher... which I actually need to use on a weekly basis.
I have Windows XP, but my Publisher version is Publisher 2! (from Windows 3.1 days)... Publisher now won't let me edit text, and says that Windows resources are too low, can't display fonts...and to close other programs...(but at the time I only have Publisher open).
Do you think that this version of Publisher might have a limit to the number of fonts it can handle? If I upgrade to Publisher 2003 will I still have trouble?... I'm actually keen on just keeping the one I have as it runs on both my computers - one with XP and one with ME - and Publisher 2003 is not compatible with ME...
Now, funny thing is, I can actually edit my text when I am in Publisher by opening Word, copying and pasting into Word the affected text (Publisher still open!) and then modifying, copying and pasting back into Publisher! So my other programs are handling the additional fonts fine... including PSE 2... and I have sometimes more than one program open then...

So, what do you think? Any suggestions? Besides uninstalling fonts!

With a program like "the font thing," you can install and uninstall your fonts as you want them (I've made copies of all of my fonts, as the program deletes the one it uninstalls to the recycle bin). But it allows me to keep my font directory trimmed and still be able to browse the other thousand or so to find the ones I want to use for a layout.

Many old Windows programs did have a problem with too many fonts installed, but I'm not familiar with Publisher. Hopefully someone will know or has the newer version you are curious about.

Answering my own post, I know...
but I found the problem was with the version of Publisher I had, not with the number of fonts I had installed (not too many after all)
I am using Publisher 2003 now with absolutely no problems!
