We are looking at getting a new printer next month and are looking at the HP Photosmart 7960 and the Epson R800. Does anybody know anything about either of these 2. So far the thing I like better about the Epson is that it has 8 different ink cartridges and the HP had 8 colors but you can only use 7 at a time. (there are 2 differnet blacks to use at different times).
Or does anybody have a printer that they just absolutely love? What do you love about it?
Thanks!

The last printer we bought was a Epson Stylis C80 have not been very impressed with it. We don't use it very often so every time we use it we have the clean the heads one or two time to get a good print. We have bought HP in the past and have been very happy with HP printers can't remeber which model it was but it was one of the older Photosmart printers

I have just purchased the Hp 7960 have had it about 2 months - One word awsome! My prints on Hp glossy paper at maximum DPI are every bit as good as shop printed layouts! Black and white printing is excellent (personally on comparing with the Epson R800 Hp has the edge here) Draft prints are so quick its like a rocket launcher coming out of the printer!!! LOL....have the paper catcher in place! To upload photos from your digital camera via the printer.....again fabulous just place your memory stick in its allocated slot in printer and upload with the push of one button.
 If i was to be super crititcal i would say it is "slightly" noisy loading glossy paper and it a "little bit" fiddly replacing ink cartridges.
Easy to install and software that comes bundled with the hp allows even the novice to upload photos to the web!
I agonised over what printer to buy for months.....in the end it allways comes down to money and personal opinion!
I hope this helps, anything i have not covered or any questions please feel free to PM me and i will see if i can help!

Got the 7960 for Christmas from Santa (along with a new DVD-RW and a new scanner – I WAS GOOD!)
I have to agree the quality of the photo’s it prints is AWSOME. The two different black cartridges are there for when you print color photos (you use the black cartridge) versus when you print black and white photos (then you use the black/grey).
I didn’t figure that out until I used all my black/grey ink on color photos .
The only complaint I have is it jams too easily. And sounds like it is breaking everytime it ‘grab’s’ the paper….just real noisy. It sometimes has trouble grabbing photo glossy paper – but if I use the 4x6 photo paper – no problems at all and wonderful results.
I’ve had it do some weird stuff twice – it froze up on me and I had to unplug it to make it do anything – but that hasn’t happened in several months. And surely that wasn’t user error ;) . Sometimes it’s too smart for it’s own good. It can tell that the size of your paper you are trying to print on isn’t the size that is in the printer and will give you an error. I’m sure there is the proper way to configure it – but it was frustrating when I was trying to print a paper scrapbook element on a scrap of paper.
But the quality of the photos is awsome!
I am an Epson fan..I got the Epson 2200 last year and I am in love with it...the quality of the prints is fabulous..on any paper I have used so far..even canvas.....and its quiet..that was a big plus for me!!!!
You probably wont go wrong with whatever you get..so good luck!!!

I have the HP 7960 and I love it. Heck i have 3 HP photo printers! It is great quality and over the last year they have really improved them allot. The lowest ink setting is the same as my highest ink setting on my other printer. I was really blown away with it. I have no locking up issues with it but did with my 1218 and that is because for some reason it likes to change printer ports itself meaning it is my computer and not the printer. I have to agree about the drafts being shot out! I have to remember to put the paper catcher up or paper shoots over my head. I was a bit put off by these teeny tiny little ink cartridges but then I realised even though they are small they last a good while and I do buttloads of printer. I looked at the epsons but was not very impressed. When I got the 7960 I was also looking at the Canon i9100 but no one had it in stock yet and I was eager for new equiptment.
