Ok - its the super new girl here.
I just discovered this site and my PSE program. i was using the tutorial on this site and shows adding emeblishments and such. so i came to the site and downloaded some of the freebies to mess around with.
But i cannot open them in PSE. they are downloading as zip files.

Can anyone walk me through how to save this stuff to my computer so i can use them?

thanks and sorry if this has been asked like a million times.

if you are using windows xp, you should be able to right click on the files and extract them. if you are using windows 98 you need to download an unzipping program such as winzip or winarch.
after the files are extracted then you can use them in PSE
hope this helps :)

You are going to need a program, such as WinZip, that will unzip the files. There probably is more than one file in the zipped file you downloaded. If you search for WinZip on google, it should take you to a place where you can download a demo for the program.

If you are only going to use an unzipping utility once in a while, there are freeware unzippers. I can't suggest any because I've used WinZip almost since it came out.

Downloaded files are ususally compressed. That is so you can download them easier. Also, a zip file keeps all the little files together. That makes downloading easier too.

Have fun, now that you have your files unzipped. Since you are new, it's a good time to create directories for your downloads and be sure to keep the "readme.txt" file with the elements it came with. That way you'll always have the name of the kit and designer when you upload a layout (important to credit the NAMES of the ones who made the kit).

Check out all of the tutorials (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/university/tutorials/tutorials.shtml), where there is information about unzipping files, resizing a copy of your layout for placement in your DSP gallery, and many more helpful turorials. Enjoy!
