I have been using PSP8 for over a year now. I was given PSP9 as a gift on Mother's Day. Should I upgrade? The only reason I hesitate is that I have a lot of custom brushes, can I transfer them to the upgraded version? Is there anything that I will loose if I upgrade. Ah, its like saying goodbye to an old friend, I hate change! LOL!! ;)

Debb; PSP 9 is great. Do you have your brushes in the PSP8 folder (in documents) or directly in your PSP program? If they are in your program (program files>Jasc>PSP8) you need to copy the files into a seperate folder in "documents". After you load PSP 9 you can go into "preferences" (under the file tab on the PSP screen) and set up file associations so that 9 will "look" in your chosen folder for your brushes. I've been using PSP 9 since Christmas and find the artistic effects to be a lot of fun-I also really like the new photo editing options. I still have both versions in my 'puter because I've been putting off moving my files (tubes, brushes, etc that I have directly in my program) (I know, I'm lazy!) but my system runs just fine with both installed-if you have the space, go ahead and give it a try-you can always delete 9 if you're not happy with it-but I think after you work with it a bit, you'll really like it. I'm sure someone else will have better instructions for you, but I just wanted to say that 9 does have some neat stuff well worth trying out!
Good luck!
Great advice...I Have been using PSP9 ever since it came out...I Love it!!! It Takes up less memory then PSP8...They don't give all the extra tubes,Masks,Frames etc...but if you want them you can download from Their web sight....But if You Love PSP8 Keep it, I know alot of People who are using 6&7 and will never upgrade. You must always use what is best for you...Both versions are Fantastic!!
I agree that you should upgrade - PSP9 has some great features for photo correction and more (if you have a large hard drive, you can keep PSP8, too). If you move brushes into a directory that already has them, PSP won't load either until you sort them down to one of each -- so it may take a bit of work, but you won't lose anything unless you delete it (it will still be in 8 - you can point your PSP9 to that directory, but that's where you may get duplicates).
It took me awhile to make sure I didn't leave any patterns, brushes, and other filters behind, but it was worth it (and I still haven't deleted 8 yet). PSP 9 does handle the memory much better, I don't remember having any crashes since switching.
