Hi,

I am Julianne in St. Louis, MO, and I as much of a beginner as a beginner can get - if that's possible. This site is absolutely phenomenal! I have been looking at everything - OMG! One of my very first questions, which will be many, is in the freebie gallery and I know this is going to sound very stupid to you - but, how in the world do I download something from there??? I am not totally computer illiterate, but definitely 'digital' illiterate. When I tried to download the Memorial Day page freebie, it comes out mumble-jumble in MS Word! How and/or what do I need to do to avoid this and actually be able to use the page/kits???

Any help you can give is greatly appreciated!
Signed,
"New to Digital" - Julianne
:)

P.S.
I just ordered my first digital camera and I cannot wait till it gets here!!!

Hey, sweetie! You opened the files in a program that doesn't recognize the language. . . You need software like Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro. Google either of them and download a trial version. Check out the tutorials on this website to get started.

WELCOME!

I know Margie can scrap in Word, wonder how she does that? I know she hates doing it, but it's a way to get started. And the digital host on Scrapbook Memories on PBS uses Word a lot.

The freebies are in PNG and JPG format, so you need software that recognizes those formats. Check out the New to Digital above to learn more about choosing software, printing, file format, etc.

Welcome to DSP! Lots of fun :) When I first started I just said, "How'd they DO that?!" I asked my sister who said, "Use Photoshop." I had no idea Photoshop could do anything like this, had no idea why everyone thought it was so cool. NOW I know!
Holler your questions, we LOVE newbies!

I was thinking that the MS Digital Image program might take care of that issue for me (???).

DIP is a great program, easy to learn and use. It can be limited for more advanced element-creation and has no brushes, but I've seen some people make it jump through hoops! Also, for those who want to do more advanced stuff, DIP is still faster to scrap in. They'll get PSE or whatever and create elements, then make the layout in DIP. It also has some really cool filters!
