i got the whole front of my head braided in the bahamas last week. then i had to snorkel in the sun for hours and fall asleep in a hammock in the sun... so my scalp is so burnt! so these braids are itching and killing me!!! here's a pic (http://www.scrapster.com/layouts/407braids.jpg).
anyway, anyone else have these? or had? how long could you stand it? it's supposed to last 6-8 weeks, but i don't think i can get to 2 weeks!! the burn just ruined it for me! :(

OHMYGOSH, MARGIE!!! Are they still IN!!! Why did I think you'd taken them out when you got home??!!! HOW AWESOME! And how freaking jealous am I?! Another friend of mine had her's done this spring, too, on a trip, and took them out the moment she got home........... LOL - it took her 6 hours to get them all out!!!

How do you wash your hair?!

Doesn't it itch like a mutha?! I'm itchy FOR you!!!!!!! itchitchitchitch....... You gotta take more pictures, man!

Marge? Are you puttin anything onthe burn? I swear by just pure babyoil, if you can stand it in your hair. took the burn and itch (which is from the skin being dry) away for me. I use it when I tan for the first time of the season in a fake bake. LOL

No advice from this gal, never had the braids done myself -- haven't gotten anywhere tropical just yet (another 3 yrs to go and hubby is taking me for our 10th). Baby oil sounds great, you just need an intesive moisturizer, something to help with the chapped skin, wishing you all the luck in the world, I'd be mental from the itching (wait a minute, i may be mental already) -- you'll have the perm of the century when you take those out!

Stace.

Wow, those look fabulous!!!!

How long did it take?

I tried to have my hair braided about 3 years ago in Mozambique, we got about half way there and I thought bugger it, far too much work.... :o

I would do braids, if it didn't hurt so dang much to have a pony tail...lol.

Yes, I have a sensitive head. All you have to do is say "ponytail" and I get a headache.

How have you put up with those things for so long? I would be going crazy too, itching, scratching, itching.....uggggghhhhh. :(

Let us know how it feels once they are out. :D

Sorry to 'laugh' on your account Margie, but I just couldn't help but giggle when I saw your hair. Although, most of us probably already knew 'that' would happen when you took them out. :p

You can't have those tight braids in for that long and not expect to have an 'afro' LOL You go girl!

So, how did the shower help? Has that scalp stopped itching yet?

:D

:p yep, after four washings (today) and heavy conditioning, it's back to straight and boring. but ohhhh, can i ever scratch!! but actually it's not bad now, figures. the rest of me is still peeling from the burn, but my scalp is mostly better. probaby from all the scratching i did when i finally took the braids out! oh, that felt soooooo good!! but right now it's just my back. and arms. and legs. and backs of my knees. other than that i'm good! Ü i guess bottom line is if you've not seen the sun for months, you should take sunscreen on a cruise.

I have a photo of me with braids! It took two days and lots of little younger volunteers! I was junior counselor at a girls' camp, and braided it on the drive up there with follow-ups the next day! It got fuzzy real fast, so I started wearing a bandana headband.
Wouldn't you know, all the younger girls started showing up to campfire with a head full of braids! Probably half of them by the end of the week, and they would shouting-chant my name whenever I got up to talk! Even the ones without braids had bandana headbands...for style, not necessity!
Makes a 16 year old feel cool...what a nerd!
I should scrap that photo, I'm in a bathing suit and oh, so skinny!
