-- My brother just recently graduated and I am going to use some of these quotes on a page that I will be doing of his graduation pictures. I hope that maybe these quotes will help some of you out (if you have graduation pics). ;) --

A graduation ceremony is an event where the commencement speaker tells thousands of students dressed in identical caps and gowns that 'individuality' is the key to success. ~Robert Orben

Wherever you go, no matter what the weather, always bring your own sunshine. ~Anthony J. D'Angelo, The College Blue Book

Your schooling may be over, but remember that your education still continues. ~Author Unknown

You have brains in your head.
You have feet in your shoes.
You can steer yourself in any direction you choose.
You're on your own.
And you know what you know.
You are the guy who'll decide where to go.
~Dr. Seuss

A few more...

Louise may Alcott: Life is my college. May I graduate well, and earn some honors!

Sydney J. Harris: The whole purpose of education is to turn mirrors into windows.

Washington Irving: Great minds have purposes, others have wishes.

Unknown: The purpose of a liberal education is to make you philosophical enough to accept the fact that you will never make much money.

Not graduation per se, but related:

Aristotle: It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it.

H. Jackson Brown, Jr.: Think big thoughts but relish small pleasures.

Albert Einstein: The important thing is not to stop questioning.

Russell Green: The advantage of a classical education is that it enables you to despise the wealth that it prevents you from achieving.

Another fun Dr. Seuss:

My alphabet starts
with this letter called yuzz.
It's the letter I use
to spell yuzz-a-ma-tuzz.

You'll be sort of surprised
what there is to be found
once you go beyond 'Z'
and start poking around!

Here are a few more quotes that I found on graduation:

Of course there's a lot of knowledge in universities: the freshmen bring a little in; the seniors don't take much away, so knowledge sort of accumulates. ~A. Lawrence Lowell

There is a good reason they call these ceremonies "commencement exercises." Graduation is not the end; it's the beginning. ~Orrin Hatch

[I]t is clear the future holds great opportunities. It also holds pitfalls. The trick will be to avoid the pitfalls, seize the opportunities, and get back home by six o'clock. ~Woody Allen, "My Speech to the Graduates," Side Effects, 1980

Think big thoughts but relish small pleasures. ~H. Jackson Brown, Jr., Life's Little Instruction Book

Hope you guys enjoy them, and hope that maybe you can use them too.

More quotes...

Just about a month from now I'm set adrift, with a diploma for a sail and lots of nerve for oars. ~Richard Halliburton

At commencement you wear your square-shaped mortarboards. My hope is that from time to time you will let your minds be bold, and wear sombreros. ~Paul Freund

Your families are extremely proud of you. You can't imagine the sense of relief they are experiencing. This would be a most opportune time to ask for money. ~Gary Bolding

If you feel that you have both feet planted on level ground, then the university has failed you. ~Robert Goheen, Time, 23 June 1961

You are educated. Your certification is in your degree. You may think of it as the ticket to the good life. Let me ask you to think of an alternative. Think of it as your ticket to change the world. ~Tom Brokaw

Each of Us Must Climb Our Separate Mountain

Each of us must climb our separate mountain
To reach at last our own extended view.
We can be no more than what we are,
Yet that is quite enough for us to do.
The world is far too great for comprehension,
And so we only know what we can know.
But given the abilities we're given,
That's still a long and weary way to go.

Yet on the way, how beautiful the moments!
How good it feels to have some skill or art!
How wonderful to pause in awestruck wonder
At what must fill the unsuspecting heart!

And so we're proud of each of you today
For all you've learned, and all you've tried to learn.
Knowledge brings the deepest satisfaction,
Not least because it's something that you earn.

Treasure Trove
Taking stock, a tender time,
Of what life's kindly offered,
And been thankfully received, a
Treasure generously proffered.

The pearl we see before us,
A lucky oyster's hatch;
How many empty vessels searched
Before this precious catch?

But it's no simple stone, no:
Our jewel, she lives and breathes,
Her golden tears we catch as pride
Behind like fallen leaves.

A diamond vein in Jennifer,
The sparkling brook which flows,
Boys can't help but notice how
Her glamour casts a glow.

Since High School graduation,
An emerald life she leads,
Serenely lazing on the green,
Caressed by summer breeze.

But don't forget the ruby,
Hot passion close to hand,
This vital force in Jennifer
Can change like shifting sands.

Mainly like the sapphire,
Vibrant and cool,
Her essence is the blue sky
Reflected in a pool.

And so, the world's her oyster,
A stage on which her band
Is marching to her music,
Exactly as she planned.
