My husband and I are thinking of moving to Houston this fall or maybe next spring. Anyone here live near there? Even though we currently live 2 hours from Dallas, I've never been to Texas. We've been doing research on the net about Houston (the natural history museum looks really cool) but we don't actually want to live in Houston. Are there small (and I mean really small) towns in the area? We're planning a trip there next month to check it out. :)
I'm not in Houston, but Austin. I KNOW we have a buncha Ustoners here too :) I love Houston, but I would live in a suburb too!

I'm there (North Part-Woodlands)
and I've lived in various parts of Houston suberbea throughout the past 15 years - PM me and I'll answer whatever questions you have.
yes there are small towns around Houston - but the main thing you want to consider is WHERE you are wanting to commute to daily - that will make a difference to which direction you want to live

I live in Sugar Land, which is a suburb of Houston. To find a really small town which is close enough to Houston to commute may be difficult. All the small towns eventually get sucked in and become suburbia (Katy, Magnolia, Sugar Land, etc.). Conroe is kind of a small town on the north side. On the south there are some towns on the way to Galveston, but all are within minutes of suburbia, and soon probably will be suburbia. The only ones I can think of on the west are Fulshear (sp?) and Brookshire. There are towns even farther out that really are small towns, like Sealy, but they would require a big commute. Do you know what side of town you are interested in? There is also Alvin, Angleton, Santa Fe, West Columbia etc. Let me know if you have more specific areas?

I'm a newbie here. Lived in Houston all my life. Houston is great because you can live in many small towns and feel connected to Houston.
I build houses and have worked in most corners of the city. If you need any help, I'd be glad to be an online tourguide. I might also suggest Tomball, TX (northwest). It's outside of Houston with easy access to the Beltway, the Woodlands, and is great all on it's own.
