Hoping someone can help me........please!!

I want to know how to save an element I've made in psp7 so that when I re-open it to use again I can load it from the alpha channel.

Any help would be really appreciated.......its driving me nutty.......lol

Do you mean like saving the selection to the alpha channel? Save it to disk instead and then when you open your saved element go to where you saved the selection and it should open up the same as if you had saved it to the alpha channel.

Alpha Channels? I'm having a hard time figuring out how they work in PSP, in PS there is an actual palette where I can SEE my channels, but I can't reproduce that effect in PSP and therefore am having a hard time duplicating the same effects.

1) In general, how does the alpha channel work in PSP?
2) Why do you want to save an element to open in AC? What's the purpose of that?
3) Specifically, I'd like to reproduce this tutorial in PSP
http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/university/PSChrome.shtml
steps 6 and 8 are the AC steps

Thanks so much! This has been driving me batty!

Emma I don't know quite how to help you to see the channels - I haven't needed to do this yet......., but I can try and answer your questions 1 & 2......
1) the alpha channel just selects the actual element...........for some reason most of the elements I open in psp have a background.....which is really anoying if they haven't been saved to the alpha channel, because it means that I have to actually "cut" the element out or use the magic wand and invert and paste and copy until I've got rid of it all.........big time waster!!
However if an element has been saved to the alpha channel then I can load it from there and hey presto - its ready to go with no altering required!! I guess I've answered question 2) here too!! Basically so that I can use it straight away and don't have to get rid of the background.............and don't ask me why psp adds that background........I have no idea!!!

Now I figured today how to save an element to the alpha channel........
1) you must open a transparent area to make your element in.
2) Once you are happy with your element and ready to save go to files, then down to save as.
3) Now make sure you select png............then you need to select options there will be two little boxes, check non interlaced and optomized palette
4) Then click on run optimizer
there are various other things to check here if you want to .........but basically that is it.

why not just save it as a png, psp or tube file?

because, when I do save as png and re-open in psp7 - there is a background added..not always a complete background but always added stuff.......very frustrating :(
I could save it as psp - but that tends to take up waaaaaaaaay to much space on my comp. - I try to make elements for myself that I want to keep and use again and again.....so I want to be able to save them to disk and be able to use them easily.

(Rebecca, are you using psp7 or 8? - just wondering if it is just psp 7 that does this added background thing.......)

Actually what you need to do is go to the Jasc site and go to the support area - there is a patch that fixes this fault that was in an early version of psp7 - the link to that patch is http://www0.jasc.com/pub/patches/psp704ip.exe

That will fix your problem of having funny backgrounds on your pngs

As I mentioned this error only occurs in the very early releases of version 7 - You can be assured that this will fix the problem

Nope........it didn't fix the problem, but not to worry because I figgured out how to save to the alpha channel Its not a problem for me to save elements I've made to use again. :)
Thanks everyone for trying to help me - I appreciate it!!
