I am using DIP9 and I'm having trouble using a photo as a background in a 12x12 layout. It always appears distorted, or too stretched out. Is there anywhere in DIP9 that would allow me to use a photo as a 12x12 background without distortion? I think I asked my mentor this a while ago, but I cannot remember the solution or find my email about it so I thought I might post the question here. Thanks for any info!

No expert here - but since most photos are rectangle in shape you can not stretch them into a 12x12 square without distortion. You could crop the photo square and then increase it to 12x12 (if the resolution is high enough to increase the size to 12x12 without pixelating - seeing all the little squares that make up the picture). Hope that helps.

Yes you will have to crop your photo into a square first !!
Try to look up how to constrain proportions when resizing. In PS, you hold the shift key while resizing, in PSP you right click and drag the resize handle instead of left click and drag, DIP must have something similar. That will keep vertical and horizontal proportionate.

I checked my manual, but I didn't see anything about this in it (of course, that probably doesn't mean much as most of the manual seems like foreign language to me, LOL). I will try to crop my photo into a square first and see how that goes. Is there anyone experienced in DIP9 that might know of a way to constrain proportions when resizing? Thanks so much for all of your help!

In DIP if you hold down the corner it contrains the proportions. It is different than PS in that if you hold down the shift key while grabbing the corner then it DOESN'T contrain the proportions. So when adjusting, just do it on the corner and you'll be fine!
