Okay guys & gals are you ready for DSP's 2nd Monthly Photographic Challenge?! Right well dig your manuals out & take a close look at your BULB function, thats right this month we're gonna be doing a bit of Night Photography!!! Everyone excited? I don't know how many of you have done night photography before using your bulb setting but its great fun & will introduce you to one of the often overlooked capabilities of your camera. You can take the image of anything, it might be a lit castle on a hill, it could be some nocturnal animal that pops out or some local night life! So get thinking & goodluck!

Oh one last thing don't forget what you learnt regarding compostion in last months challenge & try to incorporate this when thinking about setting up your image.

Smiles,

Emma.

I lost my manual not two weeks after I got the camera to a soda explosion in the car :P Hope this is good enough. I just recently took it so I hope it counts :) It was taken at Ocean beach about 9 or a bit later at night.

Here is my entry - the composition is not great in this but I think its fun - I dont have a true bulb setting on my camera ( Canon A70) - but I can leave the shutter open for several seconds - This shot was hand held - shutter speed here was 1 second - this one was hand held .http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=3776

Here is a photo that was taken about 5 AM from the flight deck when I was on deployment. I have a couple of photos to share, but I will post those seperately since there is a resolution standard, something that is hard for me to remember :) No correction done to photos. Shutter 1/4 sec Aperature 3.5

The second photo is taken on the ship during a fire, the firefighter is waiting to see where the fire is coming from although there is smoke all around. I named it Where Are You, because of his lights going in different directions.

The third is an evening in downtown Washington D.C. when I was stationed there, shot with my Minolta Dimage 7.

The other 2 photos is the Fuji Pro S2 and the Nikon D1

These were all hand held.

Firstly I must say that I do like all 3 of your entries, they are great images, taken on great cameras!!! Do you own a Nikon D1 & an S2? My favourite shot out of the 3 would have to be No1 thats a beautiful sky you managed to capture there!

Looking forward to seeing more of your talented work in our gallery here @ DSP! :)

Emma.

I took a business trip to Clearwater Beach this week, and had lots of fun snapping sunset photos. I think I took about 100 pictures, and these are a couple of my favorites.
I use a Sony Cybershot DSC 717 and these were taken hand held no tripod, on Twilight Mode.

Wow we certainly have some talent comin' through our doors here @ DSP!

These are both fantastic examples of sunsets & you've made a great job! I particularly like No 1 especially because it has the added interest of a silhouette figure slightly off centre of the frame. No 2 is also great just a shame the horizon wasn't straight in the frame probably because you took the picture hand held. But thats me just giving you some constructive feedback but the pic is still great & I'm really glad you posted these for this months challenge.

TFS your talent!

Smiles,

Emma. :) :) :)

Ok..straightened the horizon. I think I must have been sighting along the dark sand edge, as that was what appeared straight in the photo.

I own a D1X, a Fuji Pro S2 and I had to get myself a point and shoot to carry with me everywhere, so I gave my son my Dimage and got myself a Nikon Coolpix 8700 (8Megapixels). Being in the Navy I get great opportunities for photo ops :)

I wanted to join in on the fun. I took this picture last year in Cabo San Lucas Mexico. Hand Held, 1/20s, f 3.5, ISO 200. If I had to do it over again I would change the ISO to 100 to reduce the noise in the picture. No post-processing was done.

Here my night time pic. This was taken on my piece of junk cam (i left my good dig cam at home) While on vacation in DC 2 weeks ago. The painted panda is in celebration of the 2 new pandas that the DC has. There are painted pandas all over the DC and Georgetown area. http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showgallery.php?ppuser=704&cat=500&password=
I hope I did this right.

I can't thank you guys enough for these challenges. I finally dug out the manual for my digital camera and have been playing around with it. Here's one of the results. Living out where there aren't many lights has made it challenging to find even a good sunset to play with. Yesterday, though, we had rain/snow showers all day long and just at sunset, the clouds started to break. I never would have attempted to capture this if it weren't for this challenge. Thanks!

Oops, I had labelled two of these as pictures of the moon at first, but they're actually pics of the sunrise. I have moon pics somewhere, but they didn't turn out that great.
Thanks to those who replied already--Wow, you must have high speed--I had JUST uploaded them when you replied already! LOL!

Here is my night time pic I took on vacation. I am so green I don't know where to get the exif informaton. Can someone tell me how to find the exif info for me to post? In Jasc Paint Shop Photo Album there is a lot of information under details. Do you want all of that? I don't see a way to cut and paste it so I guess it would need to be retyped in. Or is there another way to get the info?
