Ok so there are heaps of people out their reviewing DIP2006 - But here is my 5 cents worth - basically backing up a lot of what has been said by others!
Installed today - As I rushed around doing the frantic click click - within minutes i was dissappointed - If you were expecting lots of pretty new playthings - filters/stamps/ or maybe the much wanted brushes - nope they are not there!!!!!
Yes there are changes to the library - everything you need to keep photos organised.Organizing Pictures Digital Image 2006 Library gives you the ability to easily categorize, sort, and find your pictures and videos. Use the improved Photo Story feature to create and edit slideshows with pictures, narration, and music. Also, archive and burn your pictures to CDs or DVDs.
There is a pretty neat addition called Black and white effects (Effects/black and white effects) Skip the next paragraph if you cannot stand technical jargon - But in a nutshell it tints your black and white photos easily - read on if you want more.
Applying a black-and-white effect to your picture automatically turns your picture black and white. The three filters —yellow, orange, and red — provide increasing contrast based on the colors of light they allow through the film. For example, a yellow filter produces slightly more contrast than a basic black-and-white picture; an orange filter produces even more; and a red filter produces the most extreme contrast.
The black-and-white feature uses a standard color formula of 30% red, 59% green, and 11% blue. However, you can polish the overall effect by making slight adjustments using preset filters or by emphasizing certain colors for more dramatic results.
While in Digital Image pro 10/9/7 you could achieve the same effects by putting on a coloured transparent layer - lot more fiddley to achieve than DIP2006 one click method.
For those of you who are wondering - ALL TUTORIALS AVAILABLE HERE AND ELSEWHERE WILL WORK NO PROBLEMS IN DIP2006.
Final Verdict - Not worth the upgrade. Not enough changes/new features. Unless you are a mad organisational fanatic (Library will fullfill your needs amply)
Heres hoping Microsoft hears the cry - BRUSHES BRUSHES BRUSHES!!!
Good bargins to be found for anyone wishing to buy DIP10!!!!!
