Is there any where to find out what all the differenent stroke options are supposed to do?

There is a list of different blending mdoes and locations. I am wondering what they all do.

I tried using all the diffenent mode and doing the same size stroke on a picture in each mode, don't see a diffence.

You mean the stroke layer styles? Or the Edit>Stroke with different blending modes in that dialog?

Blending Modes are mathematical calculations taking the color of the bottom layer and blending with the color of the top layer. Depending on what those two colors are decides the blend, or which color shows up. If the bottom is light and the top dark, or the bottom dark and the top light, or if they're close to the same. There are descriptions for each, and you'll get to know which effects you prefer for certain things, but we just scroll through them and see what we like. A lot of it is chance, actually. It takes a lot of time to start using and testing all of those on every layer, tool, or filter on which they're available.

While it's not really covered much in the 160 class (we'll make a border/mat with Edit>Stroke), you'll get more and more exposed to it in each following class for some awesome effects and elements!

For a beginner, I wouldn't worry much about it. That's like worrying about garnish before your main course is started. Just play, have fun, see if you like anything, but don't make yourself suck it all in at once  See you in class! Check your email, that'll give you lots of main course gristle to chew on now!
