Welcome
Have you looked at the PSP basic page tutorial (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/university/tutorials/PSP_BasicPageEP.shtml)
You put this question in the Photoshop forum. Never mind I expect one of the admins will move it for you.

You can find lots of help for PSP right here! Try the first page and let us know if you get stuck or any other questions you may have. Also, there are many tutorials to help you and you may want to take a class for PSP as well. It is an excellent class that will help you get familiar with PSP and the tools. Emma is a great teacher! :)

Most importantly is to ask questions too. PSP9 is a great program.
I so agree -- I have used Paint Shop Pro since version 3 -- but the last couple of versions are so great -- with more features than I'll ever learn. So focus on the basics first. I learn best with a project, so look to the top of the page and find a tutorial using PSP that you'd like to accomplish (using a kit or whatever). Open a photo and make a copy of it (shift key and letter D - for duplicate), then close your original photo so you don't harm or otherwise alter it.
Now - go through some of the effects and see what they do. Then go through some of the adjust features. This will give you a feel for warping, colorizing, adjusting color on an image. I think of the layers just as if you were doing a paper layout -- one layer has to be on top, one on the bottom -- and many in-between. That way you can slide them around, move them up or under another layer -- just like paper.
Check Stacey's (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showgallery.php?cat=500&ppuser=7454) gallery -- she just received Paint Shop Pro for Christmas and posted similar to you are doing now! Be sure to ask questions -- as you can see, there will be many to offer help. Have fun - and remember that the program has help - at the top of your window -- click on it! And check the files at www.corel.com (they recently purchased JASC who made PSP.
Hope you have lots of fun -- there are also classes here -- check the links at the top of the page.
yes, definitely ask a lot of questions.
The First Page Tutorial is really the way to go, then start looking at the other tutorials. I'm teaching Intro to Paint Shop Pro right now (tomorrow/Friday is the last day to sign up for August) and again in October. Totally worth the time and money, tons of info in just 4 weeks, and lots of opportunities to ask questions. Would love to have you!
You'll get it! Don't get frustrated or give up, it's just a computer program, not worth feeling bad about. This should be fun, so just slowly go through tutorials, ask questions, there are plenty of things to make me angry that my software shouldn't be one of them! Have FUN!
Welcome to DSP!

I had psp 8 and just updated to the 9. Basically I experimented alot. I also read the manuel although that didn't help me that much with scrapbooking just basic use of everything.
The biggest thing is to visit the section on the scrapbooking sites that deal with psp and read everything in that section (I know a lot) that may pertain to what you are interested in doing whether it is just putting pages together or making elements and kits.
I agree with the sites suggested and there is another one
http://www.psplinks.com/
that I use ALOT for scrapbooking but has general psp things too. I go to these links and then I basically look at the whole site to see if there is something else on the site that I can use.
As a last resort I would go to a class but I don't have a lot of money so I would rather look for it for free or ask someone. I do know that some techniques can only be learned at online courses but I just don't have the money for it. I hope this doesn't come across the wrong way or offend anyone it is just my opinion.
I'm a total cheapskate too, LOL! When I started scrapping there WERE no classes or books, so I did everything from online tutorials and the help file. Though I probably woudl have popped for a class had there been any, saved myself a ton of time and effort. So I'm just glad to offer something that wasn't around before so people who would like to take a class can now. Wouldn't work out so well if DSP required all new members to take them, LOL! Can you imagine ;) ?
Would love to have you if you can make it. Thanks for the great links!

I am self taught at PSP. I spent countless hours looking for tutorials and help and reading manuals and emails and newsgroups learning this program. I played a LOT with many of the settings. I learned alot in those first couple years.. but when I finally took a class by lori davis a few years back.... wow, it was only 4 weeks and I learned so much so fast! It would have taken me another couple years to learn by trial and error. For $30 you just can't beat it. My time is worth more then that. I would take more classes too if they offered advanced classes :) I am still learning about this program!

I started using PSP for web graphics and when it came to digital scrapbooking I had to redirect my thinking. The book that turned me around with alot of AHA moments was......Scrapbooking, The Digital Way. This book is written by a digital scrapbooker, Michelle Shefvetland in cooperation with Jasc. I am still working thru the chapters in this book and it is great! Prior to getting this book I did all the tutorials on this site and others and look for free information. Also you could get a generic book about PSP9 and go thru that.
Hope that helps. I'm available for questions if you ever need anything.
