I'm working on my layout from Thursday's scrapalong. I've got my mask work done and now trying to apply filters and getting totally confused. Where can I go to get some assistance? When I apply the filters, they look horrible - trying to use Artistic Effects to make the pictures look more like drawings.
Also, what plug-ins can you not possibly live without?
TIA

Well filters are really a little experimenting for me. I basically work at it if I don't like it I redo it. There are a lot of tutorials on how to make things. I did see a tutorial for this but I can't remember where it was. :( You may want to try http://www.psplinks.com/ which has a lot of good links.
As for which I use the most: virtual photographer (for photos), redfield', superblade pro, eye candy 3.1. These are all free due to my being short on cash. Some that I have heard are good: Dreamsuite, Colorwasher (? or something like this) Eye Candy 5.1 (pay for it), there is one with a K that isn't available for free anymore but can't remember name that people always mention. People use different ones depending on the effect you want. Some have multipurposes others just do one thing.
Hope this helps.

if the filter effects are too strong, try toning them down with the sliders OR my fave technique for artistic filters is to duplicate the photo, run the filter on the top one, then lower layer opacity or change the layer blend mode from Normal to overlay (try them all) then I make another duplicate and keep stacking until I get some cool effects this way
also, put a mask on and brush away to reveal more natural facial features or other details on the normal photo below, having the sketchy part more subtle there

Oh that is a good idea about duplicating! Wouldn't have thought of that lol.
