Hi,
After a layer has a texture applied, is there any way to change the color besides using the hue/saturation in Photoshop?
I'd like to use fill, but I think that gets rid of the texture as well.
Thanks

You can use the colour overlay and reduce the opacity - or the hue saturation sliders ( not both - the colour overlay will mean that even if you use the hue saturation sliders there will be no change). Providing you dont make any colour changesor pattern overlays in your layer style you can use the hue and saturation sliders without affecting your texture
Is there a particular reason you don't want to use Hue/Saturation?
Color Balance can change things somewhat, and Channel Mixer also. But Hue is usually just fine and doesn't affect the Texturizer effect. Now, if the texture is a layer style, even Fill won't obscure it. Try all these and see which you like best!

I actually had the same question in DIP9 as well - anytime I change the color of an element with hue/saturation, the texture of that element is gone. I can't figure out a way around this - any ideas?

I didn't want to use Hue/Saturation because I wanted to use the color I had in the eyedropper. I haven't tried "layer style", I will - thanks,

You can use the hue/saturation with the color you selected with your eyedropper. Just make it your foreground color, choose CTRL-U (hue saturation) and hit the "colorize" box. You may have to do a few minor adjustments to make it the exact right color, but should work!

Amanda, is this for DIP9?

No, that is for PS. I'll have to experiment with DIP and let you know. Can you give me some more specifics on what you are doing? Are you adding a texture with an effect?

Well, like today - I was doing the quick crop and I would have liked to change the color of the gold distressed folded element, or the blue ripped one. But everytime I tried to change the color of them, using hue/saturation, the texture completely disappeared. The distressed, scratched texture of the gold one was gone - the brushed, swirled texture of the blue one was gone. They definitely changed to the color I wanted, but without the texture they originally had. I saw that aabbyy54 changed hers to red, but she still had the texture there. I can't figure out how to do that.

Try this Quick Class and let me know if you have any problems.

Thanks Amanda! I was going into Effects>Fill with Texture or Color>Hue/Saturation. I didn't even realize that I could go into Touchup>Hue/Saturation.
Yep, nothing like feeling completely inept. Ugh.

Thanks Amanda! That's a great tip!
