Hi there -

I'm getting PSP9 tomorrow and kind of excited. I currently use PSCS2 but am very interested in those tubes you guys use. I'll probably be bothering you with questions and I hope you don't mind the intrusion.

Any pointers for a PSP newbie?

PSPX (10) is due out in September, which would lead me to believe that you should be able to get a good buy on 9. One poster here claims she saw it at a store for $19.99, can't find the post right now. It might be some type of stripped down version, have no idea. When I got mine it had Eye Candy (a plugin) and some other extras, that plugin alone was worth any extra I paid.

Since you are interested in tubes, this TUTORIAL (http://members.home.nl/j.backer/steps/tubes/pearly.html) will show you their power, beyond using as just a stamp. One tube so many effects.

Search Google for PSP scripts, wow can't begin to tell you how many there are. Oh, maybe I should add, a script is a like a mini program that will accomplish a series of tasks with the push of one button and you can even record your own (does the word "macro" strike a familar note to word processors). Just to start you off take a look at THESE (http://www.sheilsoft.com/psp.htm), most are free but there is a set for sale.

You may want to take a look at the tutorials here for PSP & see how they compare to PS, just to familiarize yourself with the differences ahead of time.

I'm not sure about PS, but I found PSP and PSE to be somewhat similar. Many of the symbols in the tool bars are the same and you're already used to layers, so even thought the "system" is a little different, the principle is the same. I have a feeling you'll be able to jump right in and do some basic things without even reading too much. I would hightly recommend Emma's PSP scrapbooking class because she goes into how to use many of the tools (I went from PSP to PSE and her class helped me a lot!). There are a lot of tutorials on the internet for PSP, as well as right here on DSP.
Good luck!

I also use it and am new to it. I am just finishing up Emma's DSU 130 Beginners PSP class and learned alot. The chats here are fun and informative also. I have learned alot from them. Don't hesitate to ask questions, everyone here is so talented and helpful. Hope to see you around. :)
