I've downloaded some of the free elements, etc. And I've been able to make a half decent page or 2. (and as I said in a previous post, I purchased Fotofusion...and that is what I am using) A lot of the free downloaded, and unzipped stuff won't open...and even when I make a very simple scrapbook page...some of the time I can't find it after I save it. Sometimes it shows up on my desktop....sometimes in another folder...and sometimes as a "fotofusion" image on my desktop...and I can't open it! I guess you must think I am a total dummy...and guess I am! Should I just forget this whole idea of trying to do digital scrapbooking...or has anybody else ever had this problem?? I was so excited about it, but getting very frustrated. Any help at all will be so much appreciated. Thank you.

Not sure exactly what you are asking - you are unzipping the files?- It pays to put them all in one place to find them easily - I have a folder called scrapbooking and make sub folders for kits that I have and other sub folders for separate elements - that makes them easier to find .
Yes, a central, standard location is always good!
When I unzip something after downloading, I don't hit Save, I just click Open and browse to my folder for all my scrapping stuff. It extracts and saves the unzipped files in that folder.
You open things IN FotoFusion. Just go to File>Open and it'll appear in your work space.
hth, let us know if we missed the boat on what you're asking
Keep at it. Don't get frustrated, just keep asking questions. Someone is here 24/7, so slow down and keep us involved, we'll get you through this initial stage and scrapping away!

When you make collages in FF, you need to use the process tab to create jpg files if you want to send them away for printing.
FF creates .collage files in the My Documents/My Collages folder.
By default rendered images go to
My Documents/My Pictures/My Collages

I really do appreciate all the replies and help. (notice I did get a new keyboard and can now at least type all the letters!)
I think I just need more time to play with the fotofusion program. The fact that I do most of my "work" after I get home from my job, at around 12 midnight, probably doesn't help me any!
Just ONE MORE question (for now, anyway)....Is there a program I could purchase that has a lot of elements to use?

There are programs with lots of elements, but why not get a couple of the "scraps" CD's from the store here (http://store.digitalscrapbookplace.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=1), they have lots of page kits on them and you can pick and choose the sort of elements and kits you want.

Thank you for that info. I had forgot about the store on here. Will go look now.

I ordered 4 sets, CD's by mail.
Would probably help me to take one of the "classes".

If you are intending to use Fotofusion, which I do. You might also find it worth checking out the Fotofusion scrapbooking mailing list and the tutorials on the Lumapix site, and galleries.

I have come up with some of the pages I made, showing on my desktop as jpg. But most of them show as a fotusion image which I can not open to use on my website. Someone mentioned "saving" as jpg. (which I seem to have done with a few...but don't know how I "accidentally" did it!!!) Can't open with my Picture It (to change to jpg.). I know it must be easy to do. Will someone just walk me thru the steps. From after I have created the page....and it is there on the fotofusion screen, before I do ANYTHING else...??

I strongly suggest you watch the FF tutorial.
As I said before to create .jpg files you need to render your collages using the process tab, this will create .jpg files from your .collage files.

Cheryl,
Don't feel so bad. At least you know how to post to the forum. This is my first message here. I've had the same problem with freebies I've downloaded as well as the ones I paid for. They all downloaded as
"index 4.php" and so on. What is a .php file? I can't get them to open either. Can anyone help me or tell me where to go to get that help? I have a Mac G4, running OS 10.4 and PS CS, which makes it harded to download things and bring them up. I'm a newbie to DSU but not to PS. Thanks. Anne (don't even know how to make a cute sigy yet)

Hi Anne, and welcome to DSP. I sure hope we can help you with opening your files.
I've always been able to open downloaded files and I use a mac G3 OS 9.1 and use Stuffit Expander(Aladdin Systems) to open downloaded files. I don't know why some show up as index.php instead of ending with .zip, but mine have opened with Stuffit Expander. You might already have it on your computer. Otherwise, you might want to get it at the apple site:
http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/system_disk_utilities/stuffitexpander.html
I hope this solves your problem of opening files. If not, please write again, and/or send me an email or private message(click on my name at the left & you'll see the options for that).
I do not use a Mac. But I tried a Google search and came up with the following. From what I read, it's a Mac problem -- and the file can be renamed from "name.php" to "name.zip"
Or, as Audrey has suggested, open it with Stuffit Expander.
from a Google search:
Q. I'm using Internet Explorer on a Mac and my downloads come as a ".php" file.
A. After clicking on the "download" button, your "File Save As..." dialog box might display as if you are saving "start_file_download.php", but don't worry, that is ok. You can still choose your location, and click "Save". Make sure to NOT rename the file. The file you selected will still download onto your desktop just as normal.
Another website says
Q. After download I get .php file and can't handle it with my MAC.
A. Some Mac users have problems with .php script, because MAC can't resolve it.
And another:
Q: I am a Mac user, and I can't seem to download your logos. When I click a logo, I just get a file called "download.php". Am I doing anything wrong?
A: No, you are certainly not doing anything wrong. The problem you are discribing is an isolated Mac problem caused by an error in your web browser, so there is nothing that WE can do about it (trust me - we have tried everything!!). Fortunately the solution is easy. The "download.php" file you have downloaded IS the correct file with the logo in it, but due to the error in your browser, the file is given a wrong name. Just rename the file to whatever name it should have (eg "bayern.zip") and then run it through StuffIt to decompress the file. Inside you will find the Illustrator file safe and sound and ready to use.
Hopefully this will help.
