Woo Hoo, I can't wait for mine to get here now.
Maybe today but I know fedX and UPS aren't here until 2-3 pm.
You'll have to tell us all about it.
Got home from work to my copy also -- whee-e-e-e! Corel + JASC has to be good (I'm hoping). Extras are Corel Photo Album 6, tutorials on the CD, and pixmantex RawShooter Essentials -- plus a camera strap.

I never upgraded to v9, most likely wont upgrade to this one either, at least not until I get a new computer which won't be until next feb or march (if all goes well). I am still a bit ticked off that they didn't increase the brush size.

I got mine yesterday morning. I haven't tried out the v.6 Photo Album yet, but I did install it. In my gallery is my first project using X.
I'm still leaving v.8 on my system, though, since v.10 is pretty bare-bones. I can't wait until there are some masks/frames/plug-ins, etc created for the new one. I surely don't have the talent to make my own!

I just installed PSPX and also the My Publisher book software - which I'm very intruiged about!
Back to PSPX - HOLY SMOKES it's fast!!!! I change layer styles a lot and am used to watching the screen slowly change. Now it's like a blip on the radar screen! I haven't done anything else yet, just puttering around, but I like it already! I'll keep you posted!

SPEED SPEED SPEED!!!
Filters effects - speedy!
Moving layers - speedy!
Changing layer styles - speedy!
Opening files - speedy!
WOO HOO!!!
Speed -- that's the thing that attracted me in the invite to buy v.10 -- the "up to 50% faster. Wow, the extra layouts we can create instead of waiting for the hourglass or freezing up!
Here's the email I got and what it promised:
TOP 10 REASONS TO UPGRADE
1. Easier to get professional-looking results
2. Smartest way to fix photos
3. Makes you look better than ever
4. Up to 50% faster
5. Filled with advanced photo tools
6. One-step red-eye removal
7. Includes Photo Album 6 Standard Edition ($29 value) — FREE
8. Packed with video tutorials of Paint Shop Pro in action
9. Includes a complete Raw workflow package — FREE!
10. All new special effects
As for My Publisher, I had downloaded it due to a previous JASC advertisement before last Christmas -- they had offered free shipping, but it didn't happen -- and with several emails to them I did not get replies. I ordered the soft covered books. Every page was one off -- the one I thought would show through the open square on the cover was actually on page two, making everything a page off -- items I had planned to have facing each other no longer did. Next time I think I'll try one that DSP offers -- a bit more pricey, maybe (but they're offering a free CD with purchase) -- and I've heard of so many good results.

Arrgghh. I've been working on a text-heavy layout in PSP8 and yesterday I pulled it into PSPX. The text was all jumbled. No problem. I redid it and tried resizing but it took forever and I hit escape to cancel and everything shut down. I opened it today and the text is all jumbled again - even though I had saved it properly. Gotta figure this out - the text tool on PSP is my least favorite way of creating text in a software program.

I got mine the other day and I did the same as Stacey. I figured that way everything is now all in on place. Plus I can now burn a CD and have it all for safe keeping. I still have a couple of brushes I can't seem to find though, 1 is my favorite chenille brush. I will hunt it down. The only thing I'm having trouble with is the layers pallette, anybody seen if it can be changed to the old format. It is just easier to scroll between layers when they are a smaller typed version. Plus I liked the old script window at the top in the bar better too.
I'm still playing though and finding new things to play with.

Patt,
I was having that problem with PSP X freezing up when I tried to close it so I uninstalled then reinstalled again and it has been doing fine.
Candice
OK, I hate the browser! I've relied on it forever (in PSP3 it was separate -- you could use the browser without opening PSP. So now you can't minimize it -- it wants to dock (I found the menu to keep it from docking) -- or it can be minimized as a "mouse-over" but when I'm browsing, I want to browse -- now when I click on a file to open, it opens BEHIND the browser! I like stuff in front so I can look at them to decide if it's what I want to open, then continue! The other thing is that in PSP8 & PSP9 I could drag a file from one folder into another (like in Explorer) -- this version won't allow me to do that.
Some of my favorite tools aren't easily found any more -- so I've customized the toolbars to add them to the top or sidebar. Sometimes it isn't about what's right or wrong, it's about what you've become used to, and if the only good reason to change it is to make it different - no. I don't see any good reason to dock the browser instead of minimize it like any other photo & I see no reason (or cure) for it always being on top. (would love to hear ways to remove the "always on top" feature).
Speed, yes -- I've worried about crash a couple of times when I got to moving too fast, but it hasn't happened. Yet. It brought everything over from PSP9, so now I have duplicates in filters and masks and etc. that I'll have to find and delete (didn't read this warning soon enough). Oh, I still love PSP -- but don't understand why we need new icons for tools (I got used to the icons on tools, now have to search for some) - and in the menu at the top, the icons are gone (maybe there's a fix for this -- haven't looked yet).

Anyone have trouble working with text in PSP X. I'm trying to fit text to a path and it bogs down to the point of being really, really painful waiting on a response from PSP X every time I make a change - something like 5 minutes.
I thought it was because of the font I was using since I hadn't had problems before, but I changed fonts and it's still really slow.
I'm ready to go back to PSP 9 if things continue.

I wish I had noticed the speed Stacey speaks of. I'm going to play with it today and pay more attention. I've only done one layout and it's not finished until after Lauren's chat Thurs.
There is a way to tell your X to look in the old folders you keep your plugins and stuff in. So I didn't actually have to drag anything, I just added those folders to "look in" for X.
With that in mind, you don't want to uninstall your earlier version if you've done that. Also, the photo corrections work a little differently, so if you're used to the old way and like it, don't be so keen to uninstall right away. You might want to do corrections in the earlier version, then copy paste into X.
I'm fairly happy with the similarity to PSP8 - that is, I instinctively know where to look for tools and stuff. I miss "file, browse", though, so I have to keep the thumbnails at the bottom. I think I'll get used to that.
I like the slidebar on the thumbnails muchly - that's quite useful to see if I want to open an image or not. Then I simply slide it back down to small.
MY MAIN Complaint (and I'm headed to Gizmo's posted reference page to see if it can be fixed) is that I've gotten so dependent on the right click when resizing raster images. X does not do that - it will not hold the ratio, and I haven't figured out what the replacement tool is. I'm going to be very mad if there isn't one.
All my brushes didn't transfer, either. The ones that didn't are some that were given to me on a cd, so I'll be able to reload them. They certainly weren't dupes from X, so I'll have to figure that out.
But all my plugins were accessible with one addition of a folder, and I think all my tubes, too. That was VERY convenient. Oh, and you can do that with presets too.
Lord help the user who wants it on more than one computer, though. This will be a bear to get on this laptop; I never even kept up with 8 on it, but I take this thing on vacations. Not that we've had one of those lately, and I've almost forgotten what one is. But I take a lot of pics when we do, and I'd like to have all my tools available.
Thanks everyone for the X input here. I'll probably be back with more comments.
Edit: Oh, Stacey - about the user error - I've done something similar with photos where I've tried to resize something to 200 or 300 dpi, but forget to change the inches from 25 or so, so it's trying to make this mondo file and I get mad when it hoses up and blame the computer. I've done this at least 3 times; you'd think I'd learn.
Elisabeth

Alright, I've been using X for several days now. It doesn't do some of the things I used in 8, or I haven't found the new buttons yet.
The correction for the resize-same scale is left click hold on a corner, as opposed to right click hold. I'm okay with that, but I forget sometimes.
I can't print from it - it prints all dark and useless and I haven't found out why yet. I've been continuing to print from 8. In fact, I still don't like the browser set up in X, so I've been keeping both programs up and running. I'm doing the layouts in X (for which I've discovered no advantage, not even speed) and browsing for elements in 8. Plus I still have to make the gold charms in 8; I can't find the new button for that in X.
I do like using both; I can keep more things available to me that way - my photos on the browser in X, elements on 8. But I guess I could always have done that by opening the program twice.
I'm sure I'll find some advantage to having bought X, I just haven't yet.
Argh -- I just found that I can't see my brushes in the browser! I still can in 9. I created some brushes and was deciding which folder to place them in -- and the browser doesn't even show that there are any files in that directory. So opened 9 and there they are -- I wish they hadn't changed the browser!!

I downloaded the update to PSPX and realized that my troubles loading the palettes started right after that. I have no layer or materials palette right now. I'm gone for the weekend, so I asked dh to uninstall the update first and see if it works; if not - then a complete reinstall.
Corel responded to my tech message about the crashes I reported. They said it was a known problem that PSPX crashes when you click on the layer palette when a function is processing.

I'm currently on the last days of PSP X trial version now...I've never used any other version so I can't compare but the program from a complete newbies perspective is really quite easy....apparently the layout has changed, making it easier to view your palettes etc....there are some much quicker methods (taking the steps from 8-12 down to 4-5) there aren't many PSP X tutorials out there so I was following v7 & 8 tutorials....it is very quick to load however mine always seems to freeze when opening my Layover folder.....
I love PSP now, its a fantastic program.
I'm really happy with PSPX .. had no issues with the patch at all and it is definitely faster than 9 was.

I don't like PSP X at all. Seems like PSP X takes over. I had some jpg images and clicked on it, I didn't have PSP X open and it automatically opened in PSP X.
In preferences for PSP X File format preferences, I did not check anything in there and was surprised that it automatically opened in PSP X.
I will probably be using PSP 9 more than PSP X. I have no need for the Raw stuff that they are so keen in hyping for Corel PSP X. I don't think it opens any faster either. However, that is my own opinion.

<<I did upgrade and don't like PSP X at all, I didn't find it any faster than PSP 9 either.>>
Just opened it up for the first time today, really lovign the new features! Love the photo bin/file browser pane at the bottom, love the thumbnail previews, lots of fun new toys. I don't like the new icons, a little too "3D" detailed, hard to tell what's what! But I'm having fun creating away, no problems yet
one question: I can't find any capability to stroke a vector path with a brush or tube. Does PSP X STILL not have this feature?!
The Vector Paint script is giving me fits, I could use some help with that, but just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing a new feature in PSP X. Anyone know?

I finally did it! I am 1 week into pspx. I love it. I ordered the cd got it in 4 days and installed it one week ago. I have made 5 pages and found no problems. The tools are almost the same as 8 only different names and some are in flyout boxes or whatever you call those things:-)
I moved all my saved brushes,tubes,plug-ins and presets over to x and uninstalled 8.It has been a problem for over a year but I kept putting up with the freezes and slow resizing.I should have went to 9 but never did.
The first time I used any of my old 8 stuff I had to "open with" choose pspx and check "always use this program to open this file" Then everything changed from the 8 red icon the the new X icon.I opened a few to make sure they worked and they do.Whoo Whee! did that make me feel good. The image replacer tool is the best.I have used it a dozen times. :p

Hi,
I am new to digital scrappin and have decided on PSP as my first software. After using it for a couple months, do you recommend v 9 or 10? I've been reading some reviews and it seems that 10 is not as user friendly and has made adjusting color in a photo more difficult. Please give me PROS, CONS and any other suggestions. I'm very anxious to try my first layout. Thanks
danzinst
12-06-2005, 11:52 PM
Tammy, I skipped 9 and went straight to X.I had used psp 8 for about a year and a half maybe a little longer.I have heard that there is very little difference in 9 and 10.There is day and night difference in 8 and 10. 10 is much faster. When I open my background paper onto my template it is instant. The background resizes to the template size without having to grab the handles and wait.I always hated that in 8.You do have to play with the adjustments in the photos. But I find that to be true in anything I have used. I never let the wizard do it for me.I like to do my own adjustments.
Another pro for me is the browser. It shows thumbnails and you can make them bigger. The layers pallette also shows thumbnail (no need to rename everything)you can see what it is.The tools all very handy to get to while you are working plus you have a help folder open on the left side if you need it.
If you are considering PSP then I would go with the latest version.I would recommend the latest version in any program.
As for me I am totally satisfied with X, so much so I recommended it to my sister who also had 8. She purchased it about a 2 weeks after I did.
Good luck on what ever you get. Once you go digital you can forget about housework, cooking and cleaning (lol) I am totally addicted and love it.

heart33, Here is what I do.pspx puts a folder in "my documents". All my scrapbook downloads goes there in a folder I created for kits. I use photo album to organize all my pictures and to download my pictures from my camera (it's quick and easier than the software that came with my Kodak Easy Share)As an added bonus there are some pretty good templates for scrapbook layouts too.I also like the way(choices) album prints your pictures.
I don't use "my publisher" or the "rawshooter".
I use X to make all my layouts that I have downloaded or purchased.
Good luck. Don't be afraid to play with your software and have fun.

Thanks for the tips. I currently have all my downloads organized under my documents also. I arrange them in a file after I unzip them all. Since photo album has a sort feature, I was wondering if there was some way to categorize them in there. I was reading on this board that there are some programs being used just to categorize downloads. I wasn't sure if this is the easiest way or the way everyone does it that's not a newbie :).
Brenda
I keep everything in the My PSP Files in My Documents as well, just makes it easy to find and use, and no chance of PSP eating my stuff when I reinstall or upgrade! Plus, since i Have several versions installed at once, they can ALL grab the same files from there, no extra copying.
I am pretty sure the Album/browser that comes with PSP has keywords you can assign to organize your graphics, but open and take a peek to be sure! It's not hard to add them, just time consuming

Emma mentioned having trouble with the Vector Paint script in an earlier post. In case you haven't figured it out yet, you can use the Vector Paint and Vector Tube scripts in X with an additional step. For vector text, the Rectangle tool, the Ellipse tool, and the Symmetric Shape tool, you must Convert to Path before you run the scripts. The Preset Shapes are okay without this step.
