View Full Version : business cards: printing and cutting
I made some business cards today for my various activities. Seems I'm always out and about with no way to help people contact me for my stuff: this site, my playgroup, my sewing list and projects.
Here they are

Any advice on PRINTING these?! I was thinking I should get some heavy gloss cardstock, put 10 to a sheet, and cut them myself with my swing-arm cutter. The blade is really dull, I chewed up the flash cards I printed last week. Can I sharpen it, or just replace it? Does the Office supply depot max sell replacement blades?
Thanks for any advice!

I just buy the pre-perforated business cards. I get the ones that have a clean edge. :)

I was going to suggest the same as Amanda. Avery sells perforated business cards. Then it's a snap to just tear them apart.
To make it easier...save the file out to a jpg, then import the image to word using the Avery template for making labels, unless you have something like Microsoft Publisher, which makes it even easier.
Great cards by the way!
I opened that Avery template online today, I guess I can use that. I hate those perforated cards, Troy just printed a bunch for the karate studio, and they have the clingons stuck to each side, and they're flimsy. Are there nicer ones I can buy?

Buy the higher quality ones with a clean edge. They are great and look really professional :)

I just bought some of the clean edge heavy white cardstock ones from Avery. They worked nice.

I do all my cutting at kinkos. It's free.
will Kinko's print my cards if I bring in the jpg files?

Yes, pretty much any print house can print your cards if you bring the file. From what I remember, Kinko's can be expensive, look at their pricing structure. You may also look online, you might find some better deals.

probably but I'd call ahead and ask them just to be sure. If not they could run them on the cardstock and you could see how much they charge per cut and have them cut them for you.

What I meant was...you can print on anything you want out of your printer and then go to kinkos and use their cutter. Every Kinkos I know has a great cutter and you cut your own. I do this all the time with my photo printouts.

I bought some photo glossy business cards by Printasia - They have lovely clean edges and print WONDERFULLY - The only downside was I had to create my own template in ps ( but now its made it wont be so hard next time)

Not exactly an answer to your question, Emma, but I love the cards you made, esp. that neat little metal mesh ribbon and buckle on the DSP card. Is that particular element available in a kit somewhere? Hmm? :)
no, the ribbon is only about that long, I made it just for the card. Have to LOL about the metal mesh, I was going for black gingham, too lazy to make a new pattern for it, so improvised and ended up with...well...that! Thanks!
I'm going to try the office supply depot max paper, sharpen my blade, see how I like them, then try something else, LOL! Thanks, everyone!
Lauren, what kind of PS template did you have to make? One that prints 10 to a sheet?

Emma, your cards are just great. I was inspired to do some of my own. I wanted artwork on one side and the info on the other. I used the Avery clean edge cards. Here is how they look. http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=56302&cat=500&page=1

After looking at Microsoft Publisher, HP photo software and Adobe Pagemaker 7.0 - I finally decided to make a Picture Package template in Photoshop CS. I was able to save it and now when I want to print out 10 business size cards to a print, I can do it right from PS. I used Epson Matte Photostock then printed the back of the cards out on a second sheet. Then with a photo quality glue stick, I glued the two together than wait until set and cut with a paper cutters - works really well!!
