When I was young, I remember making these ornaments using an old photo, decoupage (sorry about the spelling!), and a wood disc cut from a tree branch.
I tried this last christmas using photos I printed out on my ink jet printer and laminated and they came out beautifully. I even gave one as a present to my daughter's teacher, she loved it.

What you need:
1. Decoupage and sponge/brush
2. Developed photo or printed and laminated photo (so the ink will not run)
3. Wood slice (preferably pre-made at a craft store with an eye hook and string for hanging) with eye hook and string
4. Scissors for trimming the photo
5. Permanent marker

What to do:
1. Cut the photo to the size of the wood slice
2. Add a small amount of decoupage to the back of the photo, then adhere the photo to the wood slice
3. Decoupage the entire front of the photo and wood slice
4. Allow to dry
5. Label back with permanent marker
6. Have fun

Great project for kids of all ages!

By the way, I still have those ornaments from when I was small. The decoupage does a great job of maintaining the quality of the photo.

I have a Czech paper nativity set that I don't want to get out due to kids tearing stuff, so I was just planning on decoupaging them to 1/4" plywood. Thanks for the instructions, I was wondering about how to do it exactly
