Happy Friday everyone! :) Time to change avatars to relax for the weekend!
This is the first Friday of FALL here -- and SPRING in the southern hemisphere. Change your avatars to show the change in the season wherever you are! Link to a fall layout you've done, or dig out a favorite picture you have of fall, or go out and take a new one!

Happy Friday (or in this house "Cranky-Baby Day" :p )
My av is of the road that runs past my Aunt & Uncle's house in Evansville, Indiana. It was taken last year and I treasure it. It becomes my desktop background, since Florida only turns from green to brown. :(

My avatar is a scene typical of the colors we get up here in Northern WI. I did not take the picture, but it represents the beautiful colors we get here. The leaves are just starting to turn here. We had 34 degrees here this morning. Time to harvest the last of our tomatoes. The squash should be ok for a while longer.

My avatar is as Golden as it gets around here, the golden setting sun. The Golden Rod is blooming so just give it a little more time and we'll catch up with the season.

It's ALMOST Friday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This time, show what your FAVORITE part of DSP is!!!!!!!
Is it classes? Freebies? A particular chat? Thread? Gallery?
Create an avatar that expresses in some way what your favorite part of DSP is...and get as creative as you can!
WyoGal
09-29-2005, 09:29 AM
Janet! You come up with the best ideas!! :D
Here is mine... yes, the classes are amazing and the chats great fun but for me, the best thing I have found about DSP is the truly precious friends that I have found.

Wow, this was fun. :) When I posted the challenge, I had NO idea of what I would come up with, but I started listing words and voila...a crossword came out!
I have to say, this community is SOOO much fun. If I'm ever down, all I have to do is spend some time here, and things look a little brighter. :)
Janet that is so cool! I've been struggling to find a way to visually represent what I like about DSP, but you did it perfectly! You've given me some ideas, so I'm off to the drawing board (i.e. PSE)!

Happy FRIDAY!!!!!!!! Tomorrow is AMERICAN TAG DAY. HUH? Can NOT find any info on exactly what that means. Pet tag day is April 5, so that's not it. A couple of sites said play tag...
SOOOOOOOOOO....time to go play TAG! Lauren started this game awhile back and it dropped off.
http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=246
Time to get it going for this weekend!!!!!!!! Change your avatar to a TAG of some sort (there are some great ones in the freebies or make your own!) Decorate your tag with lots of elements, create a DATC as a tag, whatever you want...but it needs to be a tag!
And play the game...I've just posted in that thread. On Monday morning, I'll randomly choose a number between 66 (mine was post #65) and the ending one from when I get up on Monday. That poster will win a free kit from the store!
Okay Janet, this is a strange day to celebrate, but I'll play your game. Here's my avatar for Tag Day. Tag from Patriotic Grunge kit by Charlene Runge.

LOL! How they come up with these national holidays is beyond me! But there certainly IS variety in them!

Okie dokie! Here's mine.. I made this tag for the Fall Sads Crop. :D Now off to play a game of tag! :D

Here's mine--made with Angie Svoboda's Family Adventures page kit and, of course, a pic of my boy, Cocoa! National Tag Day--who knew? (Well, obviously Janet knew LOL!)
From Question dot com - Tag day
1. A day on which contributions to some public or private charity or fund are solicited promiscuously on the street, and tags given to contributors to wear as an evidence of their having contributed. Such solicitation is now subject to legal restriction in various places.

I learned something new today, now I know what Tag Day is. :)
Janet
10-08-2005, 09:56 PM
Me, too, Anne! Leave it to Pam!!!! :) She's got the answers! Cool!
Not me!! But I do run to Google whenever I have a question! Many pages had calendars listing American tag day -- but no explanation! So if it's something different, I couldn't find it. I tried tag day and was taken to the question dot com page. I love finding recipes, answers to trivia, and just so much shared information via the World Wide Web.

Now, I know what I'm doing why the kids nap!!

It's FRIDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :) I'm home late from a MARATHON day of errand running/shopping! Did you know they even have Christmas stuff out in the grocery store!!!!!!!!????????????
Since it's been a shopping day...sometime this weekend, change your avatar...what's you're favorite place to shop? Or...what's the last thing you purchased that you REALLY REALLY love? Or...create a blinkie avatar of your Christmas/Birthday/Holiday wish list (direct hints to hubbies DOES help...point it out to him!) However you want to interpret SHOPPING!!! Show us your creative shopping avatar!!!!!!!!!!!

Well I started to do a pic of L.L. Bean in Freeport, Maine--one of my absolute fave places to shop, though I don't get there often, living in FL. Anyway, after I saw Janet's avatar of Cabela's--did you read my mind? LOL--I decided to use my most favorite purchase in the last year: my kayak, bought to replace the kayak I lost during Hurricane Ivan.
I originally thought the old boat might surface sooner or later, but as fall changed to winter, and even winter's low tides didn't give up any boats, and kayak/canoe shops were having seasonal sales, I bit the bullet and got a new one. And boy, do I love her! Her name is Firefly--isn't she pretty?
Janet
10-15-2005, 08:05 AM
That's a neat shopping tale, Judy! Have you scrapped Firefly yet?
Judyy
10-15-2005, 09:44 AM
OK, Janet, you ARE reading my mind.LOL As I was making that avatar, I was thinking, Gee, I haven't even scrapped this boat yet, and I've had it since last winter. Gotta get on that.

Even though I took Friday off of work just to go to the nearest Wal-Mart Supercenter (it's 1.5 hrs away one-way, yes, I live in the boon toolies) and loved shopping there (we go about once per month)....My most precious and wonderful purchase was in February when my old faithful companion (a Gateway) died of blue screen fever (sound familiar Val?) so I got this computer. It has opened up a whole new world to me, namely digital scrapbooking, and I love it. I can't imagine life without it and I am loving my new hobby (addiction). :)

Tomorrow is "It's My Party Day!"
So it's up to YOU! Let's PARTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ideas: wedding photos (that's the biggest party I've ever had), birthday pics, anniversary pics, your latest layout about a party...
PARTY ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My avatar is from my husband's 50th  birthday party this past January. (Yes, he is much older than I am.)

It's almost Halloween!!!!!!!!! Tomorrow, or sometime during the weekend, change your avatar over to Halloween, Costumes, Harvest, or Fall themes! Your choice, but let's decorate DSP!!!!!!
A ha! I beat you in your crazy game. I switched mine a couple of days ago. Happy Halloween!

My avatar is a pumpkin that my husband and I carved a few years back. We had a great time doing it, but it was a might time consuming.

This looked like fun, so I decided to give it a try. I chose my favorite fall photo.
At the time, there was a huge maple tree opposite our place. Katie, 3 at the time, decided she would rake the yard.I used Jennifer's pumpkin font from the Ghosts and Goblins Pass the Pixel.

My schedule the next couple of weekends is REALLY hectic - so we'll be taking a break from Casual Friday for a couple of weeks. :)
Judyy
11-03-2005, 12:08 PM
No problem, Janet--we all have busy lives, so it's totally understandable.
Mind if I pick up the slack for a few weeks?
Judyy

On the chance that Janet won't mind if I pick up the ball and run with it, Casual Fridays-wise, here's my idea for this week's Casual Friday:
Sadie Hawkins Day is almost upon us.
Sadie Hawkins Day is an American folk event that made its debut in Al Capp's Li'l Abner comic strip in November of 1937. Sadie Hawkins was "the homeliest gal in the hills" who grew tired of waiting for the fellows to come a courtin'. Her father was even more worried about Sadie living at home for the rest of his life, so he decreed the first annual Sadie Hawkins Day, a foot race in which the unmarried gals pursued the town's bachelors, with matrimony the consequence.
So, regardless of who made the first move, let’s make this Casual Friday a celebration of partnerships, and create avatars dedicated to our life partners, whoever (or whatever) they may be.
Way to take control of the helm, Judy! I'm using one of my favorite layouts that I made on our anniversary this year.
Janet

OH COOOL!!!! No problem at ALL, Judy!!! :)
Judyy
11-10-2005, 03:50 PM
Well, following that somewhat lukewarm response, I'm willing to try again. This week is easy--it's Veterans' Day! Also known, around the world, as Armistice Day, Remembrance Day, and probably some others that I'm not aware of (who me? not aware of something? Say it isn't so! )
Anyway, to celebrate these special heroic days, let's make our avatars reflect our personal heroes, be they military or otherwise. Post away!

Here is mine. It is a layout dedicated to my FIL who served in WWII. He died when my DH was five years old.

This is my DH, a Command Master Chief in the US Coast Guard. He has been in for 26+ years and plans to stay for the full 30. I am so very proud of him!:D
(this pic was taken when he was a Senior Chief. Gotta update those stripes!!)

Since interest in Casual Friday avatar changes seems to have waned for the moment, Janet and I have decided to change it from a weekly event to one done for holidays, special events, and an occasional random one thrown in, just to keep us all on our toes.;)
It seems that a lot of us occasionally do an avatar that we really like and then decide to stick with that one for a while, so that's probably part of the downturn in Casual Friday "attendance." LOL This new plan allows for those times when we fall in love with one particular avatar and can't bear to part with it after just a week. :)
As always, your thoughts and ideas are a big help! :D

I do get frustrated by the fact that the avatar changes in the forum immediately, but can take weeks before it shows up on posts in the gallery. I also get a error message when I change mine. Not sure why it does this. I changed mine last week, but the November one is still posting in the gallery.
:( Hope it changes before Christmas ;)
Judyy
12-03-2005, 10:49 AM
Denise, I don't know why you're getting the error message, but I can suggest a possible fix for the problem of your avatar not changing in the gallery. After you change your avatar, go into the gallery and find one of your posts, then hit CTRL-F5. Somehow, this resets the site on your computer, and your avatar should change to the new one.
I used to have the same problem--avatar not changing--but this key combination has solved the problem for me.

Thanks - I tried that many times, but it doesn't seem to work in the gallery???

I changed my avatar for the holidays. I took this photo at work the christmas after 911. I should have made it into a card that year. I could have made a mint with the patriotic merchandising craze at the time. Oh, well, 20/20 hindsight right?
is this thread still working? Anyone wanna have a Casual Friday every once in awhile? Seeing all the new avatars was a lot of fun! We could extend it to be casual week so we can leave them up longer!
still working Emma, but archived. Maybe start a new thread?
I had it RESURRECTED!
It'll be Friday in an hour, so for tomorrow, if you have time, put up an avatar of your latest layout! If you can, post a link to it in your sig line. It'll be a fun activity for those of us with avatars to comment on each other's!
For NEXT week, just so you can prepare, your avatar should be of you and a Halloween costume (or Purim or Mardi Gras or whatever you dress up for). If it's you IN a costume, all the better! For me, probably just NEXT to a kid in a costume, or perhaps me wearing a digital costume, who knows?!
Leave your avatar up just Friday, all weekend, or even better all week!
And since there's no way I'm going to be able to come up with something every week, please feel free to post your idea for Casual Friday anytime during a week where there hasn't been a suggestion yet.
Let's play!
Hmm... Mines already Halloween. My pink hair from last year. I bought BLUE this year! I did purple for the Potter-fest in July.
Putting up latest layout for this week :D
Perhaps a casual friday blinkie would be good, eh?

Any plans for Casual Friday through December? I bet Team Digital will be busy. Can I help at all or shall we call it quits until Jan?
I'd love to play! I like when it lasts a whole week at least.
Any idea on a theme?
Rosemary
11-27-2007, 07:45 AM
I like it when it's a week long, too!
Let's brainstorm up some ideas!
Seasonal Snacks - your fave holiday food
December Dreaming - Dreaming, sleeping or hoping, what's your dream?
Jump for Joy - What makes your heart leap?
Christmas Cheer - Show us your Holiday Happiness and spread a little cheer
When you're smiling - the whole world smiles with you. Make us smile with your smile!
Kick Back - The crazy holidays are over, so how are you planning on chilling out?
Anyone else want to share some ideas? LEt's pick a theme to kick off with on Friday.
well, that's 6 right there. We could use 1 for last week of Nov (3oth in 2 days), 4 of them for December, then the last one for first Friday in January.
Okay, let's get this thread added to JANET'S ACTIVITIES LIST!!! I'll put on my fave snack for Friday, but I don't think my avatar can get that big...
Rosemary
11-30-2007, 06:20 PM
Awesome, Emma! I'm a little bit behind but I'll have to figure out what my fav holiday treat is .... hmmm.
oh, wiat, it's FRIDAY TODAY! I'll get to it...

So I take it this challenge has gone to the BIG challenge in the sky
yes, we tried to revive it, but no one changed their avatar! If we really want to bring it back, putting it on the main challenges thread would be a good idea. Rosemary, you interested in making sure people see it and play along?
