Hi everyone! I'm VERRRRRRRY new and am trying to learn my way around my PSElements. I read that you are supposed to do all of your image editing in .tiff instead of .jpg. All of my images are saved as .jpg---how do I change that without overwriting my original picture etc.??????? I had already been playing around with some of my pics when I got my digital camera-before I knew that would harm my jpg's and looking back I can see the "graininess". I know I can't correct that now but don't want to make that mistake again!!!!!
Thanks for any help....I know that this will be the first of mannnnnnnnny questions!

i don't bother with tif files, all mine are in jpg as well. just don't bother the original pics and you're fine! when i'm ready to scrap i just open some pics, pull them into a file and save as something else. that's your key is if you're going to edit them, simply save as a new name jpg file. but i don't have the room to waste on tif files and if you save as copies, you're good! :)

If your wanting to use your photos to print enlargements or you are going to work on them alot then save as tiff's ,it's what most pro photographers use but it does take up alot of megs. jpegs arent lossless files and your right, every time they are altered and saved they lose quality, kindsa like screwing up paper and trying to get the creases out each time the paper is never that smooth again.
If it's just for snapshots then make a duplicate, do your adjustments and save the duplicate as someone above described above, then you still have the original.
I do use tiffs when I know I am going to be using them for enlargements and only turn them to jpgs if the lab requires it.
