Tutorial question

Is there a tutorial or article about creating an overlay? I have some good ideas on making one but since I am a newby I have no idea how to go about making it.

I don't think we hav any tutorials, but you start off with a transparent background (no color fill, just the "checkerboard")

Then start using your tools to lay on your overlay idea, brushes, text, shapes, whatever.

You can also create the solid background, and remove areas with the eraser or layer mask.

Save them in your software's format (PSD, PSP, etc) or as a PNG file to preserve the transparency.

What kinds of ideas do you have? Newbies often have fresh eyes and creative juice to spare!

There's also the DSU class on Overlays (http://store.digitalscrapbookplace.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=4&products_id=1429) - I've just started it, but given that it's a DSP class, it should be good!
