I'd love to know if you are more interested in purchasing kits or ploppers...

Thanks for your input! :D

Oh...good question Tina!

I think Ploppers™ are GREAT. But I'd much prefer Kits. I've found that Lots of times a Plopper™ is included in the Kit. The Ploppers ™ are very convenient but limiting. And If I were to purchase something I’d want it to have some versatility and longevity (I like to get the most out of my $). I can usually get a bunch of layouts from a Kit…or at the very least take an element from it and put it onto another layout.

to plop or not to plop, that is the question. ;)
*i* would prefer a kit, for the usability elizabeth described. but if it were for a gift for my less computer savvy friends and family, it would definitely be ploppers. they might be able to plop, with help, but some of them won't be using individual pieces to create until computers are completely voice activated and smart enough to know what they meant to say.
but for my friends/family that are capable of reading instructions and following quick classes, they'll get kits! or templates even! Ü

I love Ploppers for ease of use! I love kits for their versitility! I love templates because I learn "how they did that". Choices. Oy.

I love kits for their versatility...but if you looks in my gallery...if I don't use my own stuff...I usually use a Plopper! I love to get my pictures SCRAPPED...and Ploppers are the fastest way to do that!

Definitely kits! I have trouble making ploppers work for me cuz I always want to get too many pics on a page. But kits that come with a sample layout, now they rule!!!!

Oh gotta go with kits hands down, no question, 100% kits...
But on the other hand... lol
Ideally I love a kit with a plopper... I always do 2 page LOs and 2 pages of the same plopper just don't cut it in my book (oh book like scrapbook, hee hee made a funny)

If there is a plopper with a kit I use the plopper for one page and the kit for seveal others in that same theme! (didn't Margie's Cd have kits with matching ploppers? why I think it did!)
I have cut up a plopper to make a different second page but it never looks as good...

OK just my 2 cents

Recently I've found that Ploppers haven't worked for me because I've been using the 8x10 in landscape (10x8) and most are set up for portrait and when turned sideways they just aren't the same. But when I get back to 8x10 layouts they will come in handy.

Many of the ploppers from the Scraps of Life - Children CD (also available in individual download) are 10x8.

I'm a fiddler by nature (no, not the instrument, the annoying habit of fiddling with it till I get it to my liking) so i love having the kit to work with. I like having the plopper (tm) as well, but I always seem to add stuff to those! They never end up being as quick as I'd like them, lol.

The kit adds alot of versatility to a purchse IMHO. Depends if you are shopping for versatility, and bang for your buck, or quick solutions.

Same as Tracy, I usually have at least 2 pages layout for each of the event (Easter, walking with daddy etc...). Ploppers are great for one page layout and it is for the main photo. However, I would love to have the page kits so I can put more photos on the same design. I really love all of the layouts of April Contest page kit from Lauren. With one kit, I can see almost 100 layouts from everyone. I definitely will "copy" some of the page ideas from these ones. Twenty of them are my favorites ones! Unless there is a contest on a specific page kit, you will not see many design layouts on the same page kits like this one. The Digital scrapbook place website has come up with GREAT idea. Hope to see more contest for page layouts in the near future!

ALso, I wish to have both 8x10 and 10x8 for ploppers. I only collect the portrait design layouts and most of the ploppers are 12x12 or 10x8.
Another request is that I would love to have 2 pages design for ploppers in some occasion (graduation, mother's day).

I prefer kits, they are more flexible and I scrap in 8.5X11 (borderless printer) and they are easy to resize. :) :)

Kits, so I can take them apart and use the elements with other things I already have, and have some control over the design too!

KITS!!!I don't think I've ever used a plopper yet I like to create and ploppers are too restricted.

I really like kits more than ploppers because it gives you more bang for your buck. Not to mention, if you wanted to do a series of layouts, you can have "carry the theme" just by rearranging and adding variety. :) :) Although, nothing beats being able to roll off about 5 pages at a time because the hard work is done. :)

Hi,
I'm new to this place and this is my first official message so I hope I'm doing this right. Anyway if the question is kits vs ploppers, it's kits for me all the way. I love the versatility of kits, and the ability to interchange elements if I want to.

Kits for me too.... I love having all the different stuff I can play with and use a bit of this here and a this other thing somewhere else. Ploppers are great and I like them too but I prefer kits.

I actually prefer templates (my sister occasionally shares a .psd file with me, layers intact) because I don't like dragging and dropping elements onto my canvas Not laziness, I guess it's just that crowded feeling at the beginning and the sense of confusion, "Now what?!" LOL!

But kits are really great.

Gotta admit though, for a cheap FAST layout, Ploppers are priced just right for speed! And they're more customizable than you might think!

I'm totally addicted to both AND mini albums too. I checked my hard drive and I did over 500 scrapbook pages last year - in part because of mini albums and ploppers. You can mirror a plopper for a two page layout, don't forget. But I love working with kits! OH - I love having choices!!!

I guess I prefer kits. I have a folder full of ploppers that I have never used. Although, I loved the set of ploppers that I used for my scrap last month album. Tracy Pori shared the ploppers with the psd layers intact. I was able to open them in PSP and it made it easy to do a companion page. I really liked this but of course this wouldn't work for everyone.

I like Stacey's idea of mirroring the ploppers for the companion page. Maybe I will have to re-visit my folder and make some use out of them.

Oh...and I did use mostly Christmas ploppers for my Christmas mini album. It was nice that many of the ploppers also went went with the kits and elements. Ok so I guess I like ploppers and kits. But if you are going to make me pick just one, I would pick kits:)

I love kits... when I have time to play...and am feeling creative.
But for quick and easy I adore ploppers and templates I have so many layouts with ploppers thats I don't post in the gallery very often.........It feels better to plop photo's into that plopper rather than going into that horrid scrappers block thing...

I stopped feeling guilty (my own odd thought process that for some reason using a plopper was cheating and was embarassed to admit I did it....) about using ploppers a LONG time ago..... I love to PLOP AND PROUD OF IT !!

Have kids use ploppers is a great intro to scrapping too

I find the mini albums incredible value and more likely to buy one of them than individual ploppers as there are so many pages to play with and manipulate....

So Tina the answer.... DEPENDS on my mood and time available lol

Kits got my vote too :) I like to use bits and pieces from different kits and mix things up (I get bored easily!!). That being said though, I have never actually used a plopper before. i like giving things the "me" touch! :D

My first vote was kits - but I do have a lot of mini-albums as well. Where I can, I have the original kit with the mini-album so that I can do some customization as needed.

I believe it was Marcee's "My Girl" Mini Album that has a lot of true ploppers and then pages that you can place your photo(s) where you want/need.

If it weren't for Kim Liddiard's Oak Memoirs Plopper, I probably would never have started digital scrapping. That is not an exaggeration. Even though I was familiar with desktop publishing and Photoshop (and as embarrasing as it is to admit this) I just never made the jump to scrapbooking. I downloaded the plopper, used it on two LOs (rotating them 180º from each other), and found out how easy it was to do a quick page and then customize it. I haven't used many ploppers since then, but without that introduction to the concept, I'd still have all my photos in file cabinets and on hard drives, rather than on the walls and in albums.

Thanks to Kim and to all the other designers who make my hobby easier and more attractive.

I read the whole first page without someone saying the words "Mini Album"! Finally here came Stacey carrying the Mini Album flag!

They are far and away my favorite. I love to make them, I love to use them. They are the quickest and most fun way to get a book done fast.

But *wipes tear* Tina didn't make that one of the poll choices, really. *sniff*

I never thought of using ploppers with kids.
That's a good idea.

I've actually never used one. (blush)
But scrapping, for me, isn't just about getting beautiful pages done.
It's a form of relaxation and a creative outlet.
Even if my page might look better if I had used a plopper instead of a kit, it's more satisfying (and relaxing) to me, to use a kit.

However, I just bought my dad DIP, and will recommend a couple to him so that they can scrap their trip to India themselves. (Although, I've volunteered to do it, I'm sure he'd love to be able to make some stuff himself too!)

Definitely kits. Especially since photo aspect ratios vary so much, I usually find a plopper doesn't quite work for the size/shape photos I have and people scrap in different sizes so the plopper isn't always the size you want. Part of scrapbooking is about creativity so I also like kits better for that reason. It would be great to have one plopper included with a kit as a match for a two page layout and it's also great when a sample from the designer is included in the kit. It shows how the designer pictured the elements working together.

All that said, I could see a market for ploppers for people starting out scrapping or those not interested in the high amount of time and computer upkeep to maintain a library of kit graphics.

yeah, most of the regulars who are into this will prefer kits, but I've been amazed by all my local friends asking me where to get and how to use instant pages (Ploppers). They're not interested in digi scrapping per se, but they love the layouts.

They're all getting excited about Ploppers. I know many a dedicated dig scrapper, though, who when in a phase of life where scrapping gets away from them use Ploppers a LOT. So for beginners/kids, or busy people who don't want this as a hobby (which is most of the world...) it sure is nice to be able to still hang out and crop with them! Some of them will become big-time scrappers, and many of them won't.

I really enjoy the handiness and speed of Ploppers. BUT if I had to choose between them I'd choose KITS because I like to use bits and pieces from different kits to make up a layout. Also Ploppers are generally very 'complete' and I find it hard to add much to personalise them as they usually have all the embellishement they need.

I prefer to buy kits. I want to have my own creativity come through in my layouts and make them totally personal just for me. I enjoy working on them and molding them until they are perfect. Ploppers are limited to that one design and style. I have seen a few ploppers in the DSP store that are things I am not skilled enough to make on my own, that I would buy, but I would also get the kit to it, too. Ploppers are great for the occasional scrappers, too, or busy on the go people, or even for beginners.

I like ploppers, but for the value, I prefer kits.

Kits for me. I feel as though I haven't created anything if I use a plopper and I achieve very little personal satisfaction ( I actually have only used ploppers twice, both times in one of the classes) so I am probably not armed with enough information to form an educated opinion:D I have to say though, that the people who see my albums don't know the difference and are suitably impressed either way. I did scraplift a plopper of StaceyJ's once for a challenge and thoroughly enjoyed that. I think ploppers could be a great way for someone to start if they have had no scrapbooking experience - a sense of achievement and something good to look at first off.

oh, too funny! i rarely claim layouts as my own and that's cool with me! :D it's certainly a good way to start for beginners, but i personally love it and i'm certainly not one. i like to change the hues, so the ploppers look totally different than the originals. i like to say now that i don't scrap, i plop! :D

Oh I have to say Kits! I like to be able to use it more than once if I want and make it totally different. I also do 8.5X11 so ploppers just don't usually work for me. I want to be able to print my layout on my printer using my borderless option and my printer doesn't print 12X12. Also its easier to fit the layouts into a notebook at 8.5X11. So kits, for sure!!! That way I can use what I want where I want!!

i like ploppers because you can get pages done quicky and have something to show for all of your pictures that otherwise might get left on my hardrive. Also, ploppers are a great way to learn "a sense of design" without actually taking a class. I find the more i expose myself to different styles and pages, that my ability to use the kits creatively increases.

Its Kits for me, too. Love the versatility and combining different elements from different kits to get just the right feel for my layouts. If I'm short on time, I use the quick clicks. I usually set up all my layers in one file and have them ready to just plop my papers and photos in. The only time I use ploppers is when I use the mini album kits to give someone as a gift.

Gotta have those kits, ladies! "Ploppers" are great, but I like the feeling that I get when I have put a page together using the paper and elements from a kit. I feel like I am cheating if I use too many "Ploppers"!!

Absolutely 100% kits. I've downloaded some of the freebie ploppers and they are beautiful but unless I happen to have the perfect photo to fit the plopper I wouldn't use it. A lot of other people have already expressed other reasons I prefer kits so I'll just leave it at that. :)

I like the kits, I feel it is more of my own that way, but with that said, I would love to see the little cluster/frame ploppers for on to of photos or backgrounds, that we can use wherever we like, if the cluster is preassembled it makes it a little easier yet it is still our own final product as we decide where to put it,

I found this really difficult to choose. I like them both. I've never used ploppers but am just about to try. I think the kits enable you to use your own creativity. But a plopper makes it easy to have an instant page which has been designed by an expert at a very reasonable price. Ideal for a quick page. I think it would be better if there were kits, addons, or at least elements, to go with each plopper so that you can have a plopper to match your favourite kits and also so that you can add extra elements if you wish. :) Mo

I like the kits best. Even when I did use the ploppers that came with Club Digital, I added a few items from a kit to "make it my own". I definitely prefer a well-made kit with all the elements I need and if they are not there, I can just get them from another kit! Kits, Kits, KITS!

It would be kits - but I also love templates or guides, sketches that we can tweak. It would be nice to have a kit with a template which we could then personalize with the papers and elements. That would be the perfect combo for me. Have a challenge to post using your sketch with your kit - I like seeing versions of the same kits.

Two page plopper would be good too!

I love to do lots of LOs with one kit before going on to another. One month I tried to do 10 LOs with each of 10 kits in a two week period for Samara's 10 in 2 challenge. I didn't quite do the 100 but I managed loads. It was great fun and I certainly feel I've had my money's worth, and more, from the kits. :) Mo

I prefer kits to ploppers although I buy both. I ALWAYS buy a plopper if it comes in the 10x8 size because my printer doesn't do 12x12 and I prefer to print my own rather than getting it done by someone else.

And if any of the designers are reading this I would love love love it if we could get ALL the QuickClicks in the 10x8 size too - it would make it so much easier - I like to see the whole page used up instead of having to print my 12x12 at 8x8 and wasting half the paper!

I did manage to find acid & lignin-free A4 albums too so having to cut off the wasted photo paper is a pain not to mention a waste of money! :ron:

I've just a done a search in the shop for 'quickclicks 10x8' and do you know how many there are - FOUR!!! There might be more if I did another sort of
search I guess.

I've never understood the reasoning behind doing 12x12 layouts when it is obviously not easy for most of us to print them. I know 12x12 printers are
available in the US fairly easily (I'm guessing here) but here in NZ they are few and far between and if you do find one the price is usually out of my
reach. To order them from overseas is also mightily expensive because of the rate of exchange with our money not worth that much!

And that brings me to the 12x12 photograph paper, I've NEVER seen it here which means ordering from overseas - yes the 12x12 albums are freely
available but why buy them when you can't print 12x12 - and I can't afford to send them out to be printed either (if you could find somewhere that
does 12x12) - for the amount of LOs I print out it would be just too horrendously expensive.

And does anyone have any idea how hard it is to find a 12x12 photo frame, I've walked my legs off in all the malls looking for them, you don't get any
choice of designs or colours if you do find them either!
Can you tell I'm so frustrated about it all...

So come on designers, step forward and make us some 10x8, or 11x8.5 quickclicks, I for one will buy them ALL  please?

Amanda

Many of us prefer the square format. I find it much easier to work with. So I scrap 12x12 but bring 8x8.

I'd already voted on the poll previously - for kits. But while I'd still vote for kits now because its more cost-effective, I have since then become a lot more interested in albums and ploppers. I used to believe a LO had to be entirely made from scratch or it's 'cheating' (I even feel a bit bad sometimes about using QCs) but really, I dont think Mac or whoever sees my LOs in the future will care or even notice whether I spent 10 mins plopping or 10 hours creating my own LO. What they'll see is the memories and I've been very lacking in that since I tend to spend so much time creating a LO that I often neglect the journaling and half the time, I just end up with 'decorated photos' instead of real memory pages. With 12,000 photos and more added everyday (I still aspire to scrap them ALL :D), ploppers and QCs (and scraplifting :D) will be the only way I can even begin to make a dent. I still want to do LOs from scratch of course, for the creative fun, but would love to plop as many photos as I can as well (make that, as many as I can afford to! :D). My problem is pretty much the size, like Dawn said. Most QCs, ploppers and albums (and other people's LOs :D) are square and conversion to my 10x8 format always takes me quite a while. I also cant buy a plopper alone but the kit as well in order to do the extension. I chose 10x8 in the first place because of economics and availability. While 10x8 albums are hard enough, 8x8 albums and photo frames would be impossible to find here plus I thought I could cram in more photos with the extra 2" not to mention the wasted paper. The photobook creator solved the album problem & I'm currently trying to decide if I should change size since square is much easier to do & I can scrap (and plop) faster. The only thing still stopping me is the thought of having to convert my existing 400+ LOs and some 10x8 albums and ploppers I already have!

Oops sorry, I didnt mean to blah on like that, as if anyone's interested! LOL Anyway I just meant to say that yes, I would choose kits but ploppers are darn awesome tools too :)

I prefer kits for their versitility, but I do like quick clicks, and I like the plopper plus kits. Both of those are very versitile and can be used in many different ways. I don't see too many of the plopper plus kits, although I have bought a few and I like them very much because of the way you can move things around with them. Particularly if I don't actually want the whole kit, or I have the add on to a kit, the plopper plus adds to it and gives me more ideas on in a hurry on how to use the kit. I have used the plopper plus kits with other kits too, which makes those even more versitile, so I feel like I get a kit and a quick click at the same time - more bang for my buck.

:ron:

This is what I do when I want to change the size of my 12X12 LO.

First I make my 12X12 LO. Then I create a new page in 8X10 and pick and choose a background to match my original 12X12 LO. I then bring in my 12X12 LO into my new 8X10 page and it comes out beautiful.

I like kits because I enjoy making a simple LO better then putting a picture in a frame.

I prefer kits, but I love mini-albums too. Those are so great to get several LO done quickly, and you end up with a lovely coordinated album that makes a great gift (especially when combined with the beyond-the-layout products). Albums give you the variety of a complete kit used in different ways, but all the work is done for you.

I love ploppers - IF they have space for several photos, rather than just one or two.

Couldn't say it better myself. I haven't brought from the store yet guys but once i get a job...

I prefer kits to ploppers too.
However I do like to purchase ploppers that are very specific to a holiday or event-
4th of July- Easter, Xmas etc...

Margie - high five!

I have been with DSP since 1 January and have bought hundreds of kits. But for the past month, I have become enraptured with ploppers. I collect them, I organise them, I stare at my files and I blog with them on three blogs and I put them into my blurb.com books - I'm currently making books 7 to 10 all at once.

I just love their clear lines, the way you can recolor them and turn them sideways or upside down (http://tiggerthefbicat.blogspot.com/2008/06/savour-moment.html).

I like to use just one photo in a LO -so I prefer ploppers with just space for one photo. I am teaching several adults at my school and have started them off on ploppers, teaching recoloring (http://topcatrules.blogspot.com/2008/06/girl-power.html), and reusing a plopper (http://lesliesmyers.blogspot.com/2008/06/capri-days.html)in many ways. I am also using word art with them now.

I haven't done any of my usual challenges for a while now as I am waiting for my current plopper addiction to abate... I might be waiting for a while! :)

I do prefer kits to ploppers - BUT - ploppers are a neccesity when there is no inspiration to be found or you just need a good-looking page in a few minutes! That said, I have several ploppers to choose from - in fact I posted may most recent last night! Higher, Daddy, Higher! Kits! Plopper Add on's are fun, but like most of you I do two page LO's and kits are much more versatile. Thanks for asking!
