Hi all,
I'm totally new to the idea of digital scrapbooking - but I have a fabulous 13-month old subject, and I'd like to try my hand at it. I already have and have used Macromedia Fireworks. I'm wondering if that would be appropriate software to get started with. I don't want to buy something new until I'm sure it's for me, and I noticed many of the kits seem to come in .png format, so I was assuming they'd work okay for Fireworks. Is that true? Any tips or advice?

I'd be grateful...

Thanks!

Jen

Welcome! It's delightful how the perfect subject can inspire one<g>

As long as you can open a .png file and have the background stay transparent, you've got a program that'll work just fine for digital scrapping. I've only opened Fireworks a time or two (it came bundled with something else at work) but my recollection is that you should be able to use it for scrapping no problem.

We don't have any tutorials specifically for Fireworks, but it shouldn't be too difficult to "translate" either the Photoshop or the Paint Shop Pro tutorials. Take a look here (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/university/tutorials/tutorials.shtml) for Completing Your First Paper-Style Page & Completing Your First Graphic-Style Page (in the Beginner section.) I would expect that one of the programs featured would be close enough to the Fireworks set-up to be useful.

Don't hesitate to ask questions - we can offer theoretical suggestions and I can always reinstall Fireworks so I can poke around in it. Which version do you have?

Again, welcome! DSP is a very friendly place and you'll find lots of help and inspiration here.
