Does anyone have this yet?

I sooooooooooooooooooo want one!!!

I'm a die hard film user, but I really really really want this camera. It's all I've ever wanted in a digi cam. I'm a Canon Rebel girl (i've had 2), so when I heard about the DRebel, I was STOKED!! Especially since the lenses I already own will fit it!!! yay!!!!

So, my issue now is the $1000 it takes to buy! LOL!

I'd LOVE to know if anyone has one and if so, will it live up to my dreams?

Answer (short story):
It's lived up to my dreams! It was a big check to write...but not one ounce of buyers remorse.

Background (long story):
I have been wanting to buy a digital camera for about 5 years. And about 4.5 years ago i purchased a top of the line one on Ebay...but never got...just got screwed :( I had been hesitant since. Last summer while visiting my aunt & uncle (they have the professional canon DSLR $5000 for the body) I knew I wanted a digital SLR well I did research and knew that the Digital Rebel is what I HAD TO HAVE. The $1000 price was a big issue but I didn't want to spend $200 now on a digital camera and then in a year spend another $200 on and on and on....never really getting what I want but slowing upgrading.

I also knew that I was never going to buy another digital camera again. I wanted a camera that would take care of my needs now and when I start to have children and throughout their growing up. The Digital Rebel was it. It is more camera than I need now and is very versatile and with new lenses filters etc...it would be all the camera I'd need for years to come.

I use it all the time and love it!!

Now the only thing I need is a computer to handle all that I want to do with those pictures :D

Man, I want one so badly. It will be my first big purchase of 2004 and I cannot wait! I love my Canon Rebel G (film camera) and I am always so impressed with the photos it takes. My current digital is low in the megapixels, so I worry the Digital Rebel will be "more than I am ready for".

Elizabeth and others: How is the battery life?

I haven't had issue with my battery. I went to a park hiking at a waterfall all day and didnt have any issues...I probably took 50-60 picts. The automatic shut off saves me (set at the default 1 minute)...but I'm getting used to turning it off in between.

Whimper................

Whimper....................................

WaaaaaaaaahhhhAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Man, I want one soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo badly. But can't seem to sell enough baskets on ebay to swing that $1500-ish (after spare battery, cf cards, etc)........................................... I'm all out of baskets in my house, and have started eyeing that 2 year old. Especially when she throws a tizzy in the middle of the kitchen floor over "strawberrrrrrrrrrrrrrriiiiiiies, MOMMY!"

Think I'd find a buyer?

YOu know I'm kidding, don't you???

Our 35MM camera is a Canon EOS Elan, and we have a couple lenses and external flash. So OF COURSE I wanted the Digital Rebel when it came out, had a Kodak digital before. I always HATED that delay with digital cameras, and knew the SLR wouldn't have it.
My husband surprised me with it - the FedEx guy delivered a package one day and it was a digital rebel!

One downside - our external flash didn't work with it, but not a huge deal, we just use the built in flash. And you need big CF cards, but those have gotten pretty cheap.

Took me awhile to get used to not being able to frame the picture using the display, but the good thing about that is that the battery lasts surprisingly long. I was constantly charging my Kodak, seldom have to charge my Rebel.

I got the camera in Nov, and live in Chicago. So only recently have started taking outside pictures. The inside/flash pictures were good, the outside ones are AWESOME!!!

I absolutely love it!!!
I couldn't afford to drop $1000 either, so I purchased it through Dell. Now $30 a month I can handle. I did spring for a 1024mb card for it with some of the tax refund money. :D
The battery is supposed to last for 600 pics.
I def. recommend this camera, I can't say enough great things about it.

Did you say DELL!??! This is the best message every posted in the history of message boards. I cannot swing the $1000 right now but I CAN swing $30 a month. OMG I LOVE YOU MARSHA! Thanks so much for that info!!! I am calling Dell tomorrow!

really, really want one, but I do have to prioritize. #1 on my list is a printer that can do 12x12, then I can concentrate on the camera. Appreciate all the good reviews - up till now I thought I would get the Canon G5, but now I'm thinking it just might have to be the Rebel!

hey, how many pics do you get on the media card that comes with it? and how long does the battery last, and how long does it take to charge the battery? and a battery charger comes with it, right?

hey tina,
I have a 256MB compact flash card (that I picked up at sams for $50 for my) dig rebel it fits 70 Full mexapixel pictures. If you want to know how many it will store at the different resolutions let me know.

batter charger came with it. It doesn't take too long to charge the battery maybe 1 hour or less (sorry i dont know the exact, but not to long for me)

Anything else I can answer for you let me know & i'll try

Thanks,

Thanks Liz!! I'd LOVE to get this b4 we go on vacation the 1st full week in June....

How long does the battery last? 70 pics in a day would be doable, but I'd probably have to either buy another or larger for the whole trip, or take my laptop with me and download them each night. hmmmmmmmm.................

I'm only worried with the full res pics :o) thanks!

Ok, tell me your favorite features, how much you love it, how easy it is to work (i've used SLRs since I was 16, but never laid a finger on a digi slr), if it was worth the investment and what you don't like about it.

Sorry, trying (trying trying trying) to convince DH that I NEED this!

THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

i went to a park a few months ago i took pictures on and off all day long. i didn't even have to worry about it.

my absolute favorite feature is the ability to zoom in on the LCD screen and your preview is still as crisp! i like this b/c i can see if someone's eyes are shut for sure by zooming in.

FYI they make different speed compact flash cards which mainly effects the time the pictures are written to and how fast you can cycle through the pviews. mine is the normal--medium speed (not noticeable 2 me)

Of course with the high res picts u can pull more than 1 pict from what u actually took.

hope that helps...this post took me 4ever cuz i'm writing it on my PDA :-)

Hi Tina,

Ohhh getting excited for ya, when ya getting your new camera then? Well I haven't actually used the Rebel, heard good reviews about it though & my dad actually as one & totally loves it! I would recommend that you get a 512MB memory card with it though, its surprising how many pics you actually take once you get going!

Is it definately the Rebel your going for? The Nikon D70 is worth taking a look at if your not fully convinced, its a very fast responsive camera that is supposed to rival the Rebel but is actually hot on the heals of the Nikon D100 too, which is a great camera. Your getting a lotta camera for your money with this one Tina, so definately check it out before making your final decision!

Emma. :)

Liz, thanks! LOL on writing it on your pda!!

On vacation, we'll usually leave after breakfast, and not get back in until supper, so... I want to be sure on the battery life, kwim?

Emma, thanks for the post... but, I've always been, and will alway be a canon girl ;) Actually the digi rebel is perfect, b/c I already own the Rebel Ti film cam-- and have a $200 tele lens that will fit the digi rebel, so.. no extra expense right off in the tele lens :)

Not sure when I'm getting it, still working on the DH!! Vacation is fast approaching tho, and I usually take like $30 worth of film, and it costs about $100 to have it developed, so righ there... $130 saved ;)

It's funny cuz I may take six rolls of film on a trip...but even though that is alot I still limit myself to what I take so i don't "waste" the film. I'm sure you will find this too...with the digital you dont have to worry about "wasting" you can snap away...and probably something you would have passed on taking a picture before could be the best picture?

If you lived closer I'd let you test drive mine for awhile :-( sorry..

Hey do you want my dh to talk to you dh hehehe!!!

Oh hey here's a selling pt to your hubby tell him you know all those boxes of photos i have taking up space?? Well guess what I can store all the picts I take with this NEW camera on bunch teeny tiny CDs that hardly take up any space....hey and if we a DVD burner It will be even less space....

Oh wait maybe that was my pitch...hehehe

Oh do you have anything you can sell on ebay? I've heard alot of people do that to get what they want....Oh and be warned they don't let you sell body parts :p So selling your kidney to get your new camera wont work (tried it) J/K :D GOOD LUCK!!!

Tina

IKWYM about "wasting" the film! I'm the same way. I'd LIKE to take like 30 rolls on vacation, but can't. ya know?

LOL on selling body parts on ebay!!! Maybe I can just cross my fingers for a HUGE influx of DSP sales *wink*

I know 0 to nothing about cameras, but own a SiPix 1300 digital camera. I hate it! It uses batteries way too quick and the buttons don't always function. It came with a little printer, so you could print photos on the spot, but I've never used the printer. Pictures aren't so good either, especially for eBay.

I'm looking to get a new digital, but don't want nor need anything high end. Just something that is simple and easy to use for taking family pictures and some items to sell on ebay and with good battery life.

Can anyone give me a recommendation?
