REAL--if I can go to the mountains with the family and cut it fresh ourselves. The tromping around in the woods finding just the right one is worth it--and we get good laughs when it actually gets into the house cuz it never looks quite as good as it did before cutting! But it's unique, and ours, and thank goodness there are decorations to "spruce" it up :D
