View Full Version : HELP! Error when opening files!!
I have been having this re-occurring problem of my files not opening in PSP9. I will save a layout and the next time I try to open to edit it, there is a message that pops up and says that there was an error when opening the file. No matter what I do, I have lost the file! I have lost many lo's that I need! I was wondering if this has happened to anyone else? Please let me know suggestions. I am having to re-do layouts again and again. AHHHH! Please help me if you can.

Hmmmmm I have PSP8.1 and haven't encountered this. From past experience in other programme if there is an automatic save feature it's good to enable that. Do you think it's to do with space and memory??

This is probably a memory related problem.I scrap with Photoimpact and from about 150 layouts I did,I lost 4 or 5 huge multilayered pages this way. They probably were too big for overwhelmed memory (only 256 RAM).Nobody from our PI users community could explain me how to get lost files back,so I had to redo those 5 layouts.I still could see small thumbnails of them, but PI showed data reading error when opening. This is really weird.
I haven't encountered this one (yet) ... what are you saving them as? I'm sure it's something easy, if we can just figure it out.

Can you see the thumbnails? I had a problem similar to this recently. I had saved some layouts as psp files. When I went back to open them, I could see the thumbnails, but the files were suddenly "unsupported".
In my case, I had changed the file extension to jpg, (without actually SAVING them as jpgs) and had not remembered doing so. Once I remembered, and changed the file extension BACK, I was able to open my layouts and print them.
Also, pspX files do not open in psp8 or psp9, but earlier versions open in later ones. What are you saving the layouts as?

I am not an expert at this, however, I use PSP 9 a lot. I always as I am making my layouts save, then when finished making layout save as PSP.image,
When I want to go back and open to edit I have had no problem.
Could be memory problem though too!
I have only ever used PSP9. For some reason, I just cannot re-open a layout that I have worked on sometimes. I have lost about 4-5 layouts because of this. I tried to ask Jasc support, but they just said that the file will not open and it must be a saving error. I don't think I have any problems with memory or RAM. I just don't know!
