Okay. So I created my first PS layout using the tutorial here. I've practiced several times. What class do y'all suggest I take next to make better, more professional looking pages? Keep in mind that I am totally new to this, so I need more very basic tutorials. Thanks for your input!
wow, you're cruising right along! Check out DSU 110 for January
http://store.digitalscrapbookplace.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=4&products_id=361
and start working your way through the rest of the tutorials in the PS stuff. One suggestion is to start a new basic layout for each tutorial with a photo and add JUST that one tutorial effect to the basic layout. Don't overcomplicate things. You'll quickly build up your number of completed layouts that way, and learn quickly too. Do more than one layout for each tutorial if you'd like, or just do a quick sample instead.
Hope to see you in January! You'll love 110, lots to learn and lots of fun to work with a teacher and other students

i'd recommend the first photoshop class for newbies. DSU110 (http://store.digitalscrapbookplace.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=4&products_id=361)
and there are lots more tutorials in the tutorials section you can work your way though as well. just holler in the forums if you get stuck! :)

I just finished the DSU 160 class. It's the Photoshop Elements version of the 110 class that has been recommended to you. It is SOOOO worth it just to have the lessons saved on your computer to refer back to time and again. I learned so many new things and even learned faster/better ways of doing things I already knew. Since Photoshop Elements is a smaller version of Photoshop, I imagine the Intro to Photoshop class would be even more helpful/valuable.
Then I recommend the next New Kid on the Block (NKOTB) competition. I participated in the one held last month and it was very informative. You are eligible to participate if you haven't yet won a contest/challenge and you have less that 50 layouts in your gallery. Basically, you are given an assignment to make a layout using such and such kit. Then you are given lots and lots of constructive criticism (CC) on how to improve it before the final judging. We were even given two kits and their add on packs from the DSP store for free! The next NKOTB competition is slated for Jan/Feb time frame, so look out for it.

Take Emma's beginner's class next. Take the right one for the software you use (she teaches all the beginner's classes). Go have a look at the class gallery so you can see what the last few classes have learned. You will be amazed.
I think I've done 5 classes now. Every one of them has been worth every penny I paid. They are a great deal and a great way to learn.
