I was reading around the site. These look like alot of fun. It looks like they haven't been done in a while. Is there a new one being scheduled soon? I have ALOT of favorites I would love to nominate.

We do one every Thursday night at 10 pm Eastern in the main chat room. Check out here for the schedule:

and here to nominate one

I'm there probably 3 out of 4 or 5 weeks (I always miss the second Thursday, and maybe one more), but on those nights they just hang out and scraplift together. If someone experienced is there they can offer help, support, we all just encourage each other and scrap together. Sometimes it's more formal instruction, learning a new technique, sometimes really relaxed scrap 'n' chat

chat room is down for Jan 19, let's do a forum-based scraplift challenge right here for the weekend.

here's the layout for tonight, Jill's Beautiful Mommy. I love the simplicity of it, but the unique composition makes it really intersting and rich

For the ding font, download here:

for some nice free papers, try these:

make sure you have a grunge brush or two to make those inked edges. I love this site for brushes, an index to sites with brushes for both PS and PSP

When finished, post your layout in the Events>Scrapalongs gallery. Post with questions, progress in this thread

You know me, I'm sure I'll have questions!! Not sure how to use a grunge brush... This'll give me something to work on this weekend.

Okay, I give up. How do you make the inked edges? Mine look awful!!

I use PSP 9.

So the goal here is to duplicate this layout with your own photos? Can you make changes? I have yet to join in on any of the scrapalongs but would really like to...

it's "by definition" a scraplift, but the whole point is either to make a layout you wouldn't have made otherwise, or learn a new technique. Just get your juices flowing and have fun! No rules

for the inked edges, choose a grunge brush that's a long line, as for an edge. Those are easier for me to make edges with

anyone have any filter ideas for inking in PS/PSE or PSP?

Emma, Do you think this would be a good place to start... I have never been in a chat room so I am feeling a wee bit intimidated by it... I have heard some of the chat/scraps can move really fast... Don't think I want to start there...

my view on chats is

1. create a new layout; if the chat is moving fast just duck out and crop, you don't have to read every comment. A lot of it is just chat

2. make some friends; don't crop, just chatter. You'll feel more part of the community, which is fun!

3. learn one new thing; if it's an instructional chat that's too fast for you, just listen and play with one or two new things. You'll know more than you did before the chat

Chatting is a bit of a skill to become good at it, but overall it's just take what you can, ditch the rest. You're getting more out of it than if you didn't attend, even if you only learn one small new thing, create a simple layout, or socialize with other scrappers.

Some Scrapalongs are harder than others, really depends on the layout and your skill level. My newbies usually just play with one tool a bit, the more advanced usually leave and work on their own, posting with questions, suggestions, or their layouts near the end. Hope to see you in there!

Long line grunge brush... got it. Now to find one. All the ones I have are square! Those don't make for good edges!

if you Maximzie your image window, you can use the regular grunge brushes hanging off the edge of the canvas for the same effect. Heck, if you get a nice edge this way you can just define your OWN edge grunge brush!

LOL Maybe you can, but I have no idea how to do that!! I'll have to keep practicing with my edges. So far, so bad...

just use the very edge of the brush, letting the rest hang off the layout, to create a thin grungy edge. Use the selection tool to select that edge (make suer the background is white/transparent/turned off in the Layers Palette), and go to File>Export Custom Brush in PSP, or Edit>Define Brush in PS/PSE
