Quick question. I have done a trial version of PSPX and like it enough, I think for what I'm doing now. I wanted to keep a picture of my son clear and blur the background (as if I had used the PROPER aperture!) and couldn't figure out how to do it. I would also like (some day) to be able to make part of a photo b&w and part color. Are these possible on PSPX? To be honest I'm just too impatient (and maybe a little too lazy) to do all of the trials... so I think I'm going to just go with PSPX but I guess I don't want to be disappointed when I get to be a PRO at it!! (right!)
yes, these are very possible, and actually quite common and easy. I'd try the PSE trial first, just because those both sound like they'll work for you, then decide.
In both cases, and in both softwares, you would first "extract" or create a selection around the object you want to keep the same. Then Selection>Invert and then run your blur filter or color/saturation adjustment on it.
Trust me, both PSP and PSE will do anything you want. What you're looking for at this point is which makes more sense to you, which interface you prefer, which is more intuitive to your workflow

Thanks Emma. You are always so helpful. I appreciate it and I will find the time to do more tutorials and, hopefully, sometime take a class.
Thanks again!

Hello again. I have downloaded the trial of PSE and I can't seem to decipher which tutorial to try. Could you give me a link (like you did for the PSPX tutorials)? Thanks so much!
I'll tell you wehre to find them so you can take advantage of all the great tutorials here
Look above at The University tab
under that click Tutorials
Under the Beginners subheading are the First Page tutorials. After that you click on the PSE, PSP, or PS one you want (in this case PSE)

Emma
Hi I have a question for you about PSE. When I am downloading templates etc, how do I get it to PSE and is there a special place that I put them to be able to use them?
nope, just save them in a folder and then use File>Open to open them
Be sure to read the First Page tutorial, it shows how to get photos and elements onto your layout image

We really encourage you to run through the tutorials up above in the links .. there is so much good information there! Good luck!
