I find this behaviour a bit weird. To have to go home to play cards????????
Ange is getting more support from friends than her own mother. The mother needs some MUM lessons.

I have a dear friend who is a horder. A couple of years ago she fell down and broke her knee. I had to go over to her house with 32 gallon garbage bags and clear her a path from her front door to the couch in her living room so that she could use her crutches.
Her brother and his wife came to stay with her while she recuperated. They borrowed our truck so that they could clean out her house. They took two full truck beds to the dump.

I am amazed that she LET them haul away her stuff. The ones on Hoarders (and even on the old Clean House) seem quite resistant to any sanity. I think that is why I just can't watch Hoarders...the people are so resistant. I just want to reach into the TV and shake some sense into their addled brains.

I had been begging her for YEARS to let me haul some of that crap away, and she simply could not do it. (I was one of only two people that she would allow into her house).
Once she broke her knee she was very over whelmed. She had two surgeries and was in the hospital for over a week. I cleared the path from the front door to the couch before she got home.
This woman could not throw ANYTHING out. Most of what I carried off were stacks upon stacks of old newspapers, McDonalds bags full of partially eaten food and trash, and junk mail. Once I got below the initial layer of trash I found cat urine and cat poop. It was beyond disgusting.
I don't think that her brother asked for her permission....he just hauled everything out.
This woman is one of the smartest, most articulate people I have ever met.

Mama had not seen me or her grandchildren for literally years....she could not see me on the day that I was heading back to Montana because I was going to come at 11 a.m. and she does not get up before noon.
When my brother had a heart attack and was headed into the operating room for a quintuple bypass, she could not see him before he went into the operating room because it was too early.
She could not go to Shannon's wedding because it was too hot and the wedding was taking place too early.
She could not go to the funeral of her best friend's son.......someone who she has known for over fifty years.......because the wedding took place too early.
She could not go with Daddy to get him chemo - he had metastatic lung cancer - because the appointment was too early in the morning.
I could go on and on..............
If these events had taken place later in the day, she still would not have come....she would have just come up with a different excuse.
Some people are just self centered and mean.

I have had 3 at one time but that was my limit. It is sad, but you can't get help for those people unless they want it, It is legal to be as crazy as you want as long as you aren't a threat to someone else. Trust me, I know! As looney as my ex became it took a very influential person to pull a lot of strings to have him committed.
I have noticed a lot of times in Florida that a perfectly normal looking house will suddenly have a huge pile of trash out in front. I always comment that the kids must have come to visit. Truth is the elderly person probably died leaving his or her "treasures" for the kids to deal with.
My brother and sister-in-law, OBT, and I had nightmares about cleaning out my folks' house while in mourning for one or the other of them. Their house was always presentable but 2 of the 3 bedrooms, the closets, and the basement were just packed full. Fortunately we caught them in a weak moment and moved them to a Senior assisted living apartment complex. Then we spent 10 weekends working ourselves into exhaustion.
Mom always had cats but just one at a time. She was SOOO sure none of the cats ever "went" anywhere but the litter box. Truth is that the basement proved that wrong.
I remembered a few dishes and things that had been displayed in the corner cabinet when I was very little and we could NOT find those items. I knew Mom would never throw those things out. On that 10th weekend we were down to just the little room under the basement stairs. I KNEW what was in there because Mom and I had looked and looked for those dishes. She was sure they were in a metal barrel in that room but I had never found them. AHA! The LAST thing in the LAST place in the house was that blue metal container. So sad that Mother was not able to enjoy her treasures for so many years.
I enjoy them, though.
