Okay! I am back in business! I tried it on the laptop and everything worked. BestBuy didn't have the cord I needed, so I have to wait to try the new cord. There is another BestBuy. I just got off the phone with them. They seem to think a new cord will work, and they have it. Also, the tech did say it is going to fail on me. I am feverishly trying to back up all of my things. I can't believe I never created a 2nd back up. So far, no data has been lost.

Ohh thank goodness it's still working!
Backup backup backup! Ohh thank goodness you have this chance to do so before you lost it all, that would be heartbreaking! Maybe even consider doing an online backup service in addition to your 2nd copy.

if you look at the underside of the metal end on the cable you'll see two holes. Inside the socket on you're computer there are two spring loaded tabs that plop into the holes when you insert it. That kinda grabs it and locks it into the socket. If the tabs get too flattened out they won't lock into the holes. This will allow the cable end to loosely sit inside the socket and possibly cause an intermittent connection. I have stuck a curve hook into the sockets and gave the tabs a slight lift to return them to the correct height.
Warning: turn power off and remove battery if laptop when doing this.
