Gold dust? Sparkle trail...

Okay, I'm trying to do a 'princessy' lo with sparkle trails and dust... Kinda like the stuff that comes out of the Fairy Godmother's wand. Or like TinkerBell. Anybody know of any good brushes out there? I've got one from deviantart & hybrid-genesis which are great for the 'stars', but I need one for the dust. I've been trying to find the pic that I'm thinking of but I can NOT find it... Argggh... Let me try to describe it... Um... kinda like gold rain... Does that make sense? Also, how do you 'paint' gold? Is there a color combo out there that makes it look golden or do I need to make a style? (Sorry for all the q's...) Any help is GREATLY appreciated!

Well, a picture would be worth a thousand words here, so I'll try my best without one.
First, have you seen the sparkle traisl tutorials yet? I think I showed it to you when I first made it...

You can easily make a brush to suit your needs. This is one of the easiest effects brushes to make.

For the dust shape, I'd use something like an octagon, maybe with curved sides to make it a little spiky. You can use several brushes for this, one square, pentagonal, hexagonal, etc and just paint a few trails with each brush. Even tiny flowers or whatever will work.

For gold, you should probably make a style. Use a bright yellow color overly with a white outer glow. Put an orange/gold stroke around the layer like in step 12. Remember, to make something look like light you need a super bright center and the color glow around it.
Add some bevel>texture to the style and choose something grainy to give a dust look. Have fun!

Remember to post your results here so we can see how you did!

Check out this layout that I did http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com...php?photo=6506

For the sparkle trails I used Mystical Lighting by Autofx but I could have easily have done it just with brushes ( I was already in autofx so used their feature)- I dont know about a style - The dust is so tiny that any style probably wouldnt show up that well but if you are thinking of bigger dust then applying a gold metal style would work if the scale was reduced down to its minimum - YOu could just apply an outerglow to your dust in a low opacity which would give the resemblence of luminosity

Thanks Emma and Lauren. Yes, I still have the tut you made Emma... (Thanks so much for that btw... ) I'll have to try the spiky thing. After looking at various images, I think I might even scratch the whole gold rain thing and stick to the sparkle trails... Thanks again for your help!

How's this coming along? Looking forward to seeing your results, I love sparkles so much that I tend to overuse them but I don't care 'cause I love sparkles so much!

Have fun, and be sure to ask back here if you hit any snags.

It's coming along slowly... lol... But I think I'm kinda getting an idea now... Except... How do you make it start small and end big? Does that make sense? I want to give the illusion that the trail is far away and then comes closer...

If you are doing your trail all as one layer you can use the transform - perspective tool - and increase the size that way

Oh, cool idea, Lauren! That's probably the fastest way.

I was thinking to use the [ and ] keys. Draw the trail in a few bursts of the brush, hitting the ] key to make the brush larger, then continue drawing.

I'll bet the perspecitve trick would work better, but try both. The larger brush size might work better to overlap large size stars on small size. Experiment and see!

This whole thing has gotten me obsessed with trying to make glitter. Haven't had a chance yet, but any advice would be most welcome!
