Copy & Paste in PSPX

I have been learning this program via tutorials over the past 3 weeks and today tried the "Making Buttonsin PSP" tut from this site - http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com...ontut_eh.shtml. I am having problems with the cut and paste of the 'buttonholes'. Every time I try to paste the button holes they go on to different layers!

How do I ensure they are all on one raster layer and how do I 'select'them - "Go back to your layer with the 4 white circles and select them".

I don't have version 10, but did you try "merge visible" after pasting the holes? That would let you select them, but it would also merge them with the button.

Thanks Stacey. My problem is after copying the new holes, which 'mode' do I paste them in and then how do I actually select each of the holes (in the illustration, each hole has a circular marquee). The tut looks so straight forward and I feel a bit silly and confused.
