Giving Proper Credit
Giving credit to the designers of elements and papers and other scrapping supplies is wonderful!! Not only do the designers enjoy seeing their work being used your fellow scrappers appreciate knowing who designed the pieces that have been used.
I’ve noticed that many of you are eager to give credit where credit is due and we definitely encourage that here at DSP. I wanted to clarify to you the proper way to give credit here at DSP.
THE BEST WAY TO GIVE CREDIT TO A DESIGNER IS BY LISTING THEIR NAME.
At DSP we do not allow posting of other commercial scrapbooking websites in any form
Examples:www.xyzcompany.com (a direct link to the site)
XYZ Company (the site name or company name)
XYZ (3 letter abbreviations or other abbreviations)
If you are using DSP Products we have other ways of crediting that we encourage you to do, but is not necessary. You can link directly to the kit in the store
You can include in the keywords section the product # the way to list it is 123dsp
(the product number can be found in the URL of the item in the store http://store.digitalscrapbookplace.c...oducts_id=1608 the product # for this add-on pack is 1608 so to list it in the keywords you would put 1608dsp)
For a list of keywords: http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com...bycategory.php
==============
We've had questions regarding how you would give credit to DSP products on other sites.
Now to address the TOU at DSP.
You can find the TOU here:
http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com...al.shtml#terms it is
also linked at the bottom of every page at DSP.
We DO NOT encourage those scrappers who use our kits and post on others sites to break the rules of that site. We want credit given to our designers and our TOU are worded in a way that if you can put all the information we provide for crediting then please do. If you cannot we want at the very minimum the designer's name, our company name, or DSP. Again this depends on the rules of each site...and they are all different and it up to you to know what they are and give credit accordingly on those sites.
This is taken directly from the TOU included in page kits and other items sold in the DSP store:
"If you post scrapbook pages or other projects online or submit them to magazines using any of these images, include the CD or product title and Designer's name and/or www.digitalscrapbookplace.com in the credits. Please respect the terms of use of any site on which you post layouts."
Please notice that it says "and/or" we do not say you must include our website we say the designer's name and the name of the kit or cd. That should be permissible on most sites.
==============
If we find improper crediting we may have to delete your layout. If that happens you will receive an email explaining reasons why it was deleted. Crediting could have been the problem. I’m hoping this will clarify any questions for people and that there will be less errors in giving credit.
If you have any questions or need further clarification please post in this thread I will amend this original post to add any pertinent information. I’m not trying to start a debate about the rules these are the rules and this is how they stand if you have a problem with the rules please email admin@dsplace.com.
Thanks!

Can I get some clarification, Elizabeth? I know it's not done to post other commercial scrapping websites, but we can name designers of work we've gotten from other sites, right? As long as we just give the designer name, that is, and not any site info. Is that correct?
Also, I think it's kinda cool that when you give the dsp keyword for the kit you've used in a layout, the layout gets linked to that kit in the store. Then, when someone is shopping in the store and they click that link next to the kit, that says "Click here to see layouts made with this kit," your layout will show up, along with others made using that kit. I like thinking that my layout will help someone see what neat things they could do if they buy the kit.

Yes!! At DSP our galleries are open to layouts using kits and elements from designers anywhere. If you are going to credit the designer you want to include that designer's name. You can also include the kit name as long as it does not reference a commerical scrapbooking site.
Isn't that cool how the product codes work!! I LOVE doing a layout putting in the product code in the keyword and then checking it out in the store and Voila!! there is my layout...it gives me an ego boost you know

What if all you know about a kit is the site name? I want to give credit, but when I go to the "other" site, no designer name is listed.

if you know the kit name only, then that's fine. If you have zero info, try emailing the site owners and/or reading the TOU for that product to see how they want to be credited. Most would prefer you post the layout with as much credit as you can than to not post it, so asking the site or designer directly is the best route if her TOU doesn't mesh with the site you're posting on.
Same goes for DSP products you post on other sites, post only as much credit as the site allows. Designer name, then kit name, then site name/etc is the best way. Some sites allow all of that, some sites only allow parts of it. The TOU for DSP products uses the and/or for the site name and link and stresses to respect the posting terms at other sites.
Everyone wants all their info posted/credited, but most sites have some form of limitation on what info is allowed. If there are questions, email the site directly and ask (either for their posting terms or their crediting terms).
If ALL a product will allow is a site name/link etc, then it's better to not post on sites that don't allow that, but I think that would be rare indeed!
Good questions

If you cannot follow their TOU how it is written you may want to contact the designer or company and ask if just listing the name of the designer or the name of the kit is adequate if it isn't then that might not be a layout you want to post at DSP. Of course we want you to post all the layouts you make here at DSP and elsewhere. Our Galleries are open to everyone using whatever kits they have we just ask that when crediting to just list the designer’s name and the name of the kit if it falls within the rules.

I wasn't sure where to post this.. It's just a suggestion. I was wondering if it would be possible for the site to include the product code info in the email confirmation they send to us after we buy something? Or even better, maybe the designers can incl the code in their file names or kit names? I think most people would not remember to check out the code & note it down (I know I always forget). If I'm not mistaken, the LO would not be displayed from the store link if the product code is not used in the credits. I normally use the "Click here to see layouts made with this kit" to get ideas on what can be done with a kit I'm interested in. With a limited budget, I prefer to buy something that can be used in various ways. But most of the time, only a few choices come out & there must be more than that out there.. I'm sure seeing all the different styles & varieties of beautiful LOs made with a kit would really boost sales which was probably the main reason for that link in the first place but it's not fully maximised.. Maybe if it was made simpler for the members to get the code, more will include it in their credits.. Sorry if I'm being a busybody...

You are certainly NOT being a busybody, we appreciate your asking The code is very easy to find - it is the very last number in the link for that product - I just looked at one of mine to give you an example:
http://store.digitalscrapbookplace.c...oducts_id=1033
1033 is the code, in the key words line you woudl type 1033, immediatly followed by dsp - so it would read 1033dsp.
Hope this helps

it would be really nice if the code could be included in the kit (we've all suggested it too), but since the code isn't assigned by the store until the item is completed and uploaded we can't do that. I wonder if your suggestion about including it in the email could be done though, that's a good idea. Or perhaps the TOU txt file could include a blank spot for the item number that the buyer could go fill in after opening it.
Of course, I have nothing to do with the store, LOL! But you could email any suggestions to store@dsplace.com to see whether they can be done. Always looking for ideas to improve things!

That would be a great idea. Thank you for the suggestions, we will look into putting it into your receipt or on your order invoice.

Oooh, didn't expect such prompt replies & all from site "VIP"s Thank you!
Another suggestion if I may.. (getting bolder by the minute ) BTW, is there a correct thread/forum I don't know about where I can post this? Maybe I'm repeating stuff that's been asked before.. And I have a lot more suggestions esp on expanding your email function for more information dissemination.. I AM a busybody! Only 3 weeks here & I'm requesting for changes. But please don't get me wrong - this site is great, just that I think it can be made more convenient for a better customer experience..
Anyway, currently, if we want to buy a product, we have to click on the product thumbnail to get the bigger picture and full description and only then we can see the Add to Cart button. Can we have the Add to Cart button on the thumbnail page itself as well (with a checkbox for each product)? This would be more convenient for people who already know what they want to buy & those buying a few items. It's a bit frustrating waiting for the pages to load on a slow connection. This is an additional function & would not interfere your current way. The below process illustrates..
Current steps
1) click on thumbnail (will get the full description)
2) click Add to cart (will go to cart)
3) click Continue shopping (will get the screen with the full description again)
4) click Back button (will get the shopping cart again)
5) click Back button again (to return to our list of thumbnails)
repeat
Suggested shortcut
1) click on Checkbox for all items to purchase
2) click Add to cart (will go to cart)
3) Checkout or continue shopping (return to list of thumbnails to browse other pages)
Not sure how your shopping cart application works & if it's easily customizable but I believe it's pretty standard feature. There may be other issues that doesn't make this feasible but thought I'd try anyway. Sorry this is such a long post..

These are such awesome ideas! We are mulling them over. It is hard though to just let a customer just add to the shopping cart due to the fact that items that are added to the cart need more detail...such as the size on a plopper.
We really appreciate your input!! Keep the suggestions coming!! We love to hear from you!

I see what you mean about having to go TO the page to choose what size for something like Ploppers or calendars or what month for a class, but what about stuff that doesn't have choices like kits? Could there be an Add to Cart link for just that stuff on the thumbs page? Dunno if that's possible, but I've seen Kim work some miracles in that store!!!`
