Differences Between the Book and the Movies
Ok I dont pretend to be an expert...but the higher we get in books the less like the books they are. The longer the book the shorter the movie. And the director changes things. keythings in the story line...for instance at the trial of igor karkoroff he mentions that barty crouch jr tortured the longbottoms when we all know it was bellatrix lestrange. And where is ludo bagman or winky or dobby and almost no interaction with sirius. and no dumbledore dispatching his troops...and where is the dursleys.
I liked the movie Goblet of Fire but there is way to many differences between the book. The first movie seemed to be the closest to the book although there were still quite a few noticable changes...anyway my two sense.
I was just wondering if you loyal poterists can just list as many differences between the books and movies as possible.

Like I said in another post, it doesnt bother me that much. Yeah, I gripe about it, but I love the movies. The books are my true, unflintching love, but the movies are great fun. Cliff Notes
No, no Ludo, no Dursleys, no House Elves. They had to compact an 800+ book (with small typeface!) into a 2.5 hr movie.
Actually, Barty Crouch Jr was there- he helped to capture the Longbottoms. Bellatrix, her husband Rodolphus, and his brother Rabastan. Bella did the actual cursing tho.
What bothers ME most in the movies is the mispronounciations!!
DD says Beaubatons wrong its Beau-bah-tons, not Beau-bat-ons. He says Alastor wrong- its A-last-or, not Al-ah-store. There are more. I must watch again. lol. I know that Hagrid's name is wrong. Its not said in GoF tho. Its Rue-bay-us, not Rue-bee-us. Oh! Harry says- Ack-e-o, the charm is Ah-see-o.

Here's another- in the book Dobby gives Harry the Gillyweed, not Neville... Moody did give him the book about the water plants, but the info didnt make it to Harry- so Moody set Dobby to help Harry.
There, of course, were many magical creatures inside the maze- it wasnt just a spastic hedge.
Ron was still talking to Harry when Moody turned Draco into the ferret. One of the classic HP lines was left out
"Don’t talk to me," Ron said quietly.
"Why not?" said Hermione in surprise.
"Because I want to fix that in my memory forever," said Ron, his eyes closed and an uplifted expression on his face. "Draco Malfoy, the amazing bouncing ferret ..." (GF13)
Will have to think more......

Did anyone notice the blooper in the GOF movie during the second task at the black lake where Dumbledore is talking to everyone and his voice is amplified but he doesn't have his wand to his throat...that really bothered me!
I too am like Tina. I LOVE the books and the movies despite the differences BUT you are correct. The more movies that are made the less like the books they are. I try to chalk it up to artistic license but....it does annoy me. The reason it annoys me is because such a big deal was made at the beginning by JKR that she would only agree to do the movies if the integrity of the books was not lost. I don't know if she slowly has decided to step back from the movies and not be quite so involved or what....but I know what you mean and I have to agree.....
Gosh don't get me started with differences between the books and the movies...LOL!
In HPSS there is a friend that comes with the Dursleys to the zoo......
The whole scene with Hagrid and the Dragon when he gets the dragon from the man in the pub because he tells him how to tame 'FLUFFY'.....that whole scene is totally wrong.... and then in the movie Dumbledore sends the dragon to Romania......but in the book there is this whole scene where Ron writes to Charlie and they sneek the dragon up to the highest tower...etc...etc...etc....
I can't think of anymore now because I am tired but I will write more later....I told you not to get me started!!!! And I am only on the first book!!!! LOL! LOL!

The things that bothers me most are silly things (like the pronounciations)..... Like when in the movie someone is saying a line that should be coming out of someone else's mouth. I don't understand why they dont give the right line to the right person, I mean- just have the correct person open their mouth for pity sake!
I can think of three off the top of my head:
""Fear of the name only increases fear of the thing itself" in the movie- Hermione, in the book- Dumbledore.
"Hearing voices no one else can hear isn'ta good sign, even in the wizarding world"- in the movie- Hermione, in the book Ron.
"Oculus reparo" in CoS is spoken by Hermione (boy she's getting all the play) in the movie (in Diagon Alley after the Floo Powder incident), in the book- Mr. Weasley.

OH, Padma and Parvati both seem to be in Gryffindor- they aren't. Padma is in Ravenclaw.
There is no reference to Fleur being part Veela- very important in how Ron behaves toward her now and later (HBP).
Askaban is missing a prisoner? No they aren't... there is a large gap in what actually happened there, especially considering that the year before the place was crawling with dementors when Askaban was missing a prisoner. Askaban has no idea Barty Jr is out- they think he is dead.
And he didnt get the Kiss in the movie either.
No animagus Rita.
No Madame Maxim getting mad at Hagrid for suggesting she is part giant- no Rita article about Hagrid being 1/2 giant- no Rita putting out articles about Harrys and Dumbledore's sanity (important in OotP).
No mention of Barty Sr being Imperioused.
There is no mention of Polyjuice in the book until Barty Jr is found out (it is mentioned 2 times (Snape and Myrtle) in the movie and 1 time (HRH discuss it) in a deleted scene)
No Fudge, no Bertha Jorkins, no Mrs Weasley and Bill coming to the last task (plus the ones already mentioned)
The lip licking?? just weird.
In the pensive- no Lestrange trials, no Ludo trial
No prize money for the Triwizard that Harry gives to the twins
Classes- where are the classes??? All we saw was Moodys
Dragon scene- extended and a bit boring, imho
ok, I know there are more, but I'm tired of typing. lol. Will have to think more.

I wish I had my book because I know I could find a million and one. I loaned it to my roomate and I have gotten her totally addicted to the books and she is in Italy for two weeks.....with my book! If she leaves it there....I will.....I don't know....maybe die!!! LOL! LOL! LOL!
I just read it too....LOL!
Ton Tongue Toffee, Canary Creams, all of the things that lead up to why Harry gives Fred and George his triwizard winnings, which actually aren't even mentioned in the movie...only the cup.
No mermen......
They didn't learn about any of the creatures in the black lake especially the ones that attack Harry....I can't think of there names....REDCAPS!!! I don't know...I need my book. LOL!
No muggles at the world cup....
Nothing about the Omnoculars, are any of the souveiners (sp) that they buy. Rons little action figure of Victor Krum. The rosettes....all that stuff. Althought I know they had the Omnoculars (sp) but they have them when they leave from the Wesley house for the port key. Fred or George is carrying them....
Nothing about Goblins after Ludo.....
It is hard to name them all without my book but there are literally TONS....
My roomate saw the movie before she read the book and she was really confused by the movie. Specifically the scene where Barty Crouch Sr. is found dead in the forrest. There is no explaination what so ever.......that confused her a lot.....
All for now.....just my thoughts! Wish I had my book! WAHHHHH!

Little things dont bother me, cuz it'd take forever to spell that all out on screen- the souvenirs, even the goblins after Ludo, etc...
There is no showing of them learning of the creatures, but they are Gindylow- Hermione says it.

You are so right Tina I remembered Hermione saying that as soon as you said that....."Fleur didn't get past the Grindylows" and she says it in a french accent which I found kind of odd....LOL!
another part too that they could have left out was the scene where they show Kararoff going into the great hall alone after everyone had gone. That was pointless.....just my opinion though! LOL!

"Fleur didn't get past ze grindlylows". lol. I think that is an actual line from the book tho.
I notice a lot of quote while listening to the audio books that make it verbatim into the movies. Kinda cool.
Ah, trying to make him look suspicious! My DH said "who is that? what is he doing?" heehee.........

It is so funny when you quote your husband. It makes me laugh I don't know why. Maybe it is because he is married to the Biggest Potter Fan in the History of the World and he himself asks these questions...LOL!
I found another blooper in the movie. In the scene when the two new schools come in. When Madame Maxine walks by and Finnigan says "Blimey (sp) that's one big woman" he is sitting behind Ron...but later in the scene when Mad Eye comes in and he says " what do you suppose that he's drinking " he is sitting behind Hermione.....just thought I would mention it! Hee Hee !!! OOPS!

Haha! Great catch Steff! I didn't notice that!
My husband, yeah, he has to ask too many questions. About 52 times he'd say "so, who is that? who's doing that? who put his name in the goblet? who is in with Voldemort?" and it would ALWAYS be "BARTY CROUCH, JR!!!!"
Funny thing is tho, he SAW the movie with us in Nov! goofy man.

We just finally saw the movie yesterday. There also wasn't really any explanation as to why Harry's parents appeared during the scene with Voldemort. If I hadn't read the book, I wouldn't have had any idea what was going on.
