Question Need help using a png in Photoshop 6.0

Another newbie delurking to ask for help. Firstly, this is a fabulous site! I'm overwhelmed and excited with what is possible with digi sb LOs. Secondly, my question...

I'm using Adobe Photoshop 6.0 - I opened a png file (a ribbon) to use in my LO but was surprised I couldn't select the image. I followed a tutorial for creating my first page and now I'm stuck!!! Is there a setting I need to change?

I would really appreciate any help in learning how to use/add a png file. My LO awaits the finishing details!

TIA

Marina

I suppose your PS 6 is just too old for PNGs and you need to upgrade it to a newer version or choose another software and download a trial.
Lots of useful links here:

Need Help Using png in PSE 4.0

I'm working on a mini album and I'm trying to use my png file. I have both my LO and png file open and I tried to move the png file to my LO and it's not allowing me to move it. I clicked on the 'move' icon and all it does on the png file is re-size and it's just not cutting it for me...

What am I doing wrong? Please instruct/correct me.

TIA,
Jos <><

I'm having the same problem. I can import the png to lo but can't do anything with it....resize, or anything. It just sits there in one size staring at me. Help!

How are you trying to move the PNG to your PSD layout ?? You cannot just click on the PNG and drag IT to your layout workspace. You must drag THE LAYER itself but clicking in the layers palette of the PNG file and then dragging it to your LO file.

Thank you. This is first digital LO I have attempted. I was following a tutorial from this site and got stumped. I will try selecting the entire layer instead of just dragging the object.

you can drag the object with the Move Tool IF

1. you have both windows open and visible at once, you can drag and drop the object from one window to another

2. You can drag the PNG image from its window DOWN to the little layout thumbnail in the Photo Bin

3. If you're resizing instead of moving, then don't click on any corner handles on the Move Tool box, just click in the center of the box and drag the item around

4. if you're unable to resize or Move it, choose the Move Tool, put it on your layer, then either use the corner handle on the Move Tool box or use Ctrl-T to resize the item. Don't enlarge too much, but you can reduce size quite a bit

I know PS 5 doesn't support PNG files, but I thought PS 6 did...correct me if I'm wrong. If the PNG file opens with no jaggedy black background then you're good. Just drag it to your layout image to use it: use the Move Tool and drag from the PNG image window into the layout image window to paste it.

Thumbs up

I finally got that mesh strip to behave!! I thought that I had tried "select all" before dragging it, but I guess I hadn't. Anyway, when I selected the mesh strip and then dragged it to my LO it finally showed a bounding box so I could resize it. Thank you for all your help! I love this place!!
