It's after midnight DSP time, so it must be Monday already!
Here are the requirements in short form.
1. Use the Welcome kit.
2. Use at least one item downloaded from the Freebie Gallery.
3. Include two, three, or four photos. One must be significantly larger than the other(s).
The challenge for Round 1 is to create a layout using the Welcome kit. You can re-color, re-size, and otherwise alter the kit as you like. You should have received a link to download this when you registered with DSP. (If you're looking for it on your hard drive, it's called welcomekit.zip) If you don't have it, first check your junk mail in case the email with the link got tossed in there by mistake. If you still don't find it, email
info@dsplace.com and ask for the welcome kit link.
In addition, you need to use at least one item downloaded from the
Freebie Gallery. You can use more than one. Any single item will do - a background, or a single piece of word art, or one element from a kit, etc.
One final requirement - you need to include two, three, or four photos (this means different photos, not the same photo with color adjustments or anything.) One of them must be significantly larger than the other(s). That is, one photo should be the star, with the other photo(s) in supporting role(s).
You may also use elements from any other DSP kit. You may not use elements from non-DSP kits, except for anything you have made yourself.
When you post, remember to give credit - that is, list the kits you used and the designers. Something like this works fine.
Welcome Kit: Lauren Bavin
freebie kit: designer name
You are allowed to scrap-lift. That is, you can use someone else's layout as a pattern to copy and adapt. Just make sure you credit the original scrapper when you upload your layout. You may use sketches. You may not use Quick Clicks or Ploppers.
Post your layouts in the
NKOTB-Round 1 gallery for suggestions and constructive criticism. You can make changes and post as many versions as you like during the week. This is the heart of New Kids - posting, getting comments, making changes and posting again.
You have until midnight ET Monday May 7th to post your final version in the
NKOTB-Round 1 Judging gallery.
The layouts will be judged by designers, moderators and advanced scrappers.
Don't be afraid to ask questions - if you're unsure about something, chances are excellent that many of your fellow contestants are too!
I'll be able to answer a few questions in the mornings but most of my time for New Kids will come in the evening. And that's evening West Coast time, 6pm-midnight, which is 9pm -3am DSP time. But I will get to everyone's questions.
