SNL 27 - Vintage Patriotic

Welcome to SNL 27!

I'm starting early this month because next week is EXTREMELY busy for me. I have to resign from my current job (Yahoo!) and get ready for a houseful of people and graduation ceremonies. Stephens probably won't have the colors up yet, so be patient, but they are in the gallery HERE.

If you're just joining us or curious what we're all about go HERE to find out all about what we do and HERE to read the rules and instructions. Check out our GALLERY to see what we've accomplished. We have a gallery just for layouts conveniently called SNL Layouts.

Chats are every Saturday Night from 10-11 PM ET. Attendance is not required. The Third Saturday of the month is our Learning Chat where one of us will do a tutorial to share and answer questions. We have been known to share tips and tricks on other chat nights, so don't miss out!

Here is the color pallet for June.

To start us off on the right foot, here are the limits, naming and crediting rules.

The minimum submission is 4 items, the maximum is 8 in one file with an optional add-on of 4 items for a total of 12 items. You will have 2 (or at max 3) zipped files to upload. Compress your JPGs to medium to save on download time and to be able to fit all of your 8 items into one 10MB or less zipped file and the 4 item add-on into 5MB or less. There will be no difference in printing quality. Size for 12 x 12 and save your items at 200 dpi.

Definition of items/elements:

* 1 paper, 1 frame, 1 set of photo corners = 1 item
* Small items like ribbons, eyelets, brads, buttons, etc. - 1 of each color = 1 item (i.e., if color pallet has 6 colors, you make 6 eyelets, one in each color, you count all 6 as 1 item)
* Alphas – Upper & Lowercase plus numbers = 4 items
* Quick Click/Plopper = 4 items
* Word Art = 1 item each

If there is any question about how to count elements, please ask.

I also want to reiterate the file naming rule as follows:

Name your files in this manner:

Your DSP username-SNL##-your part name
Example: hoozieg-SNL23-greenbackgrnd.jpg

Please name each and every one of your files this way so that proper crediting can be made. No matter how your files are organized, the username will be right there in the filename.

Note: When zipping files, PLEASE place all the individual items inside a folder, then zip that folder. There's a program called UnzipThemAll that will allow you to mass unzip files, but will unzip them all into the same folder unless there's another folder to contain them. When you double click on the zipped folder icon, you should see just a folder containing your files, not all the files.

Proper crediting on layouts per DSP rules: Name each contributor (username only please for privacy), what they made and SNL # so that the item can be located. For example:

Debbers - Background (SNL14), photo mat (SNL 17) and ribbons (SNL 18).
JonnySmith - Eyelets (SNL 13), bookplate (SNL 17), fiber (SNL 15)
hoozieg - layered papers from SNL 3 (if they all came from the same SNL)

As always feel free to ask any questions either here, in chat or PM me or Mars (she's my co-host). If you have questions on the website, StephensJohnson is the one to contact. His email is on the SNL website.

PS
Those of you who have asked about using DSP brushes on backgrounds and other elements, we cannot pass off any brushes as our own or give them away as brushes by themselves, but we CAN use them as part of a background as long as proper credit is given.

You may use free clip art as long as the TOU tells you it's okay (like Dover). Also, Atomic Cupcake actions are okay, just credit her in your TOU. If in doubt, ASK!

Newbies - don't forget to include a TOU/copyright notice in your submission.

Enjoy!

Sounds like fun!! I'm better gather up the items I've made for the #26 challenge and put them in some kind of form to submit, so I can get started on this one.

I quite like the "early warning" it takes me so long to come up with an idea that I need all the time I can get.

I love this theme! My son-in-law is in the Navy so these kits will be perfect to do layouts for him. Thanks!

Color Swatches - get your Color swatches here for PSP and PS!

To use, exit your graphics program.

Unzip the one for your software into the folder where your color swatches are kept while your software is not running. In PSP, this is under My Documents/My PSP files/Swatches. Then when you have PSP running use the File-> Preferences -> File Locatioins -> Swatches to add this folder of swatches.

In PS, it is by default in the presets/Color Swatches folder of your Photoshop directory under Program Files, unless you've added a new one. Then run Photoshop and you can use the load button on your swatches palette to add them.

I'm still shell-shocked, and borderline useless for anything but simple things. But considering ... I'm doing OK.

Thanks for checking on me,
hugs

Deb,
Hang it there!! You've suffered a huge blow and it will take time to get back to your usual self. Maybe it will help distract you if you just play with your digital programs.

Debbers has very kindly given help with getting swatches into PS, etc.
As a follow-up, I have written a tutorial for users of DIP on the same topic.
It is in PDF form in the SNL website tutorials - right down the bottom.

Spotty: Does DIP have swatch files you can upload and share with others, or is it just a whole different thing?

Under the colors palette I know that someone requested a brown/tan color- we have the ecru/ white but I pulled a tan/brown out of the little girls hat- B09874- we can add or not- hoozieg was asking for suggestions so I thought I would mention it- I will probably use it as an accent color though, hope this is okay. Love the colors and I need 4th of July and patriotic stuff too!!

I am new to this but read about the chat on dranet's blog so thought I would give it a try. I guess all I have to do is show up for the chat tonight and go from there.

Deb, I have not met you, but heard of your tragedy. You and your family continue to be in my prayers. God will give you the courage and strength to go on. So nice to see you here. Hugs
