SNL 28- Vincent's Room

Welcome to SNL 28!

If you're joining us for the first time or even if you've been around for awhile, PLEASE read this post!!!!!

All need to follow the rules of filesize, items uploaded AND deadlines -- PLEASE do your best to stick to them. Thank you!

If you're just joining us or curious what we're all about go HERE to find out all about what we do and HERE to read the rules and instructions. Check out our GALLERY to see what we've accomplished. We have a gallery just for layouts conveniently called SNL Layouts.

Chats are every Saturday Night from 10-11 PM ET. Attendance is not required. The Third Saturday of the month is our Learning Chat where one of us will do a tutorial to share and answer questions. We have been known to share tips and tricks on other chat nights, so come if you can!

Here is the color pallet for July as chosen by an overwhelming majority of SNLers.

To start us off on the right foot, here are the limits, naming and crediting rules.

Limits: The minimum submission is 4 items, the maximum is 8 in one file with an optional add-on of 4 items for a total of 12 items. You will have 2 (or at max 3) zipped files to upload. Compress your JPGs to medium to save on download time and to be able to fit all of your 8 items into one 10MB or less zipped file and the 4 item add-on into 5MB or less. There will be no difference in printing quality. Size for 12 x 12 and save your items at 200 dpi.

THESE LIMITS ARE IN PLACE TO KEEP DOWNLOAD TIMES REASONABLE FOR EVERYONE! PLEASE LOOK AT YOUR FILESIZE AND KEEP UNDER 15MB TOTAL.

Definition of items/elements:

* 1 paper, 1 frame, 1 set of photo corners = 1 item
* Small items like ribbons, eyelets, brads, buttons, etc. - 1 of each color = 1 item (i.e., if color pallet has 6 colors, you make 6 eyelets, one in each color, you count all 6 as 1 item)
* Alphas – Upper & Lowercase plus numbers = 4 items
* Quick Click/Plopper = 4 items
* Word Art = 1 item each

If there is any question about how to count elements, please ask.

Naming your files::

Your DSP username-SNL##-your part name
Example: hoozieg-SNL23-greenbackgrnd.jpg

Please name each and every one of your files this way, including folders so that proper crediting can be made. No matter how your files are organized, the username will be right there in the filename.

Zipping: To zip files, PLEASE place all the individual items inside a folder, then zip that folder. This is automatically creates a folder containing your files in whatever folder the user unzips to, thereby eliminating an extra step of having to create a folder for each contributor. It also makes it real easy to use a slick little program called UnzipThemAll. It unzips all the files you tell it to all at once, but if there's no folder in the zipped file all the individual items go into the same folder regardless of who made them. The it's a real pain to try and gather up all those files and get them in the proper folders. Here is an example of both naming and zipping procedures:

[She should have named her copyright file with her username also.]

Proper crediting on layouts per DSP rules is essential: Name each contributor (username only please for privacy), what they made and SNL # so that the item can be located. For example:

Debbers - Background (SNL14), photo mat (SNL 17) and ribbons (SNL 18).
JonnySmith - Eyelets (SNL 13), bookplate (SNL 17), fiber (SNL 15)
hoozieg - layered papers from SNL 3 (if they all came from the same SNL)

Deadline: The last chance to upload is the last day of the month at 12 midnight Eastern Time. Please get all your uploads done by this deadline. I know you've been able to to back and upload to even earlier months, but this will no longer be available. Stephens will close off any further uploads no later than the next day. People really get miffed when they miss your creations because they are uploaded after the deadline.

As always feel free to ask any questions either here, in chat or PM me or Mars (she's my co-host). If you have questions on the website, Stephens Johnson is the one to contact. His email is on the SNL website.

Those of you who have asked about using DSP brushes on backgrounds and other elements, we cannot pass off any brushes as our own or give them away as brushes by themselves, but we CAN use them as part of a background as long as proper credit is given.

You may use free clip art as long as the TOU tells you it's okay (like Dover). Also, Atomic Cupcake actions are okay, just credit her in your TOU. If in doubt, ASK!

Don't forget to include a TOU/copyright notice in your submission.

Enjoy!

Color Swatches - get your Color swatches here for PSP and Photoshop!

To install these, exit your graphics program.

Download the attached file below which belongs to the software you use. Unzip it into the folder where your color swatches are kept. (explained next)

In PSP:
this is under My Documents/My PSP files/Swatches. Then run PSP; use the
File-> Preferences -> File Locations -> Swatches
to add this folder of swatches.
Compatible with PSP XI, X, 9 and 8, probably 7, too, although that's only a guess.

In Photoshop:
it is by default in the presets/Color Swatches folder of your Photoshop directory under Program Files, unless you've added a new one. Then run Photoshop and you can use the load button on your swatches palette to add them.

This is an ACO file from PS CS2. If you have another version of Photoshop and this swatch file is incompatible, please let me know, and I'll start saving it as an ASE file instead.

Oops, I have started on mine - hot humid sweaty summer days is my theme.
Now, doesn't THAT sound appetizing? LOL!

LOL ScrapMel! That's a great theme! Got that here too! 106 at our airport in Montana yesterday. Wasn't near that hot at my house (99) but it set an all time high record for this area. Of course, we don't have the high humidity you do, but still not fun! That's why I moved here was to get out of the 100 degree heat!

I'm stumped for theme other than Vincent's room. I have a hard enough time picking colors! So what do you guys think! You can decide. Just post a theme or a desire to pick your own theme and we'll work from there. Okay?

A word on the deadline: I now know that Stephens has been leaving the site open for uploads for the entire next month, allowing latecomers that whole time to get something uploaded. This causes people to miss the late ones because they don't see them. We will no longer be allowing uploads later than the 1st day of the next month. This little grace period is to compensate for time differences and floods and such. If you have a special circumstance that causes you to be later than this with your uploads, please PM or email me and we'll try to accommodate you. Otherwise, please do your best to get your uploads done before midnight ET on the last day of the month.

Thank you!

SuZ

Yeah, we're setting records here, too. 111 Yesterday - which is NOT unheard of in August, but about 10 degrees hotter than July usually is.

But the humidity is up, too. We usually get extremely DRY heat. Now, at 111, even 55% humidity is noticably yukky.

So....something for summer, or WHATEVER works for me!

We've been so busy, that the twins' birthday was June 28. I promised them a newly wallpapered room for thier birthday. It's July 7th. I haven't even measured the room yet, let alone ordered the stuff. Thank God I got some patient kids!!!!! I hope I get time for a kit this time, last month was such a push! I think that I might not have made it had I not been home sick from work a day. Yay for bad pork????

I'm no good with sticking with the mainstream theme anyway. I'm the kid in the back of the room that always wanders off. I know we are supposed to stay in keeping with the mega kit for the most part but my brain just won't do it most of the time!! After looking at the colors for a bit, my Muse whispered 'Pirates' in my ear. So that's prolly what I'll be posting!

I found some really good Vincent Van Gogh quotes, so I'll make word art.

How about we do whatever theme. It would be fun to see what everyone comes up with in those colors. Sort of like a free for all?

Oh boy! I've been so busy lately I didn't even notice we slipped into a new color scheme! I'm so excited, I have to take a mini-road trip tonight so I'll have something to mull over in the car!
The idea of keeping the theme open really appeals to me, especially as we have quite a lot of colors to work with ... but if I were to study the palette the first thing that does come to mind is French country style?

Good idea, SuZ, limiting the uploading time to just the month in question.
Also a good idea that you have reiterated that TOTAL zipped files for the month should be kept to 15Mb max.
1 file great
2 files nice
3 files if you absolutely have to
4 files NO!

Not that I don't like getting all those goodies - but fairs fair...
