College...the thought frightens me but my HS sophmore will be there before we know it. Please keep the horror stories to a minimum, if you don't mind.

On a great note, tonight is the first home football game and DD will be marching with the band! GO BAND! She has a solo in the performance but they are not doing that portion tonight, but I can't wait to see it.

Noooo it's better to be in the know, and prepared ;-)

Hey, you don't expect us to go this alone, do ya?!!

Seriously though, I was so happy that I heard all the horror stories before DD went off to college. I was more prepared as was she. I was able to handle all the crud abit better and be a better mom to her when she called with the horror stories, looking for advice. I felt calmer...a little. LOL!

Hey Di my oldest dd is a sophomore too!

I agree about the middle school thing, but one thing I do is make sure that the kids have more and more responsibility to be in charge of themselves but you can make sure I am keeping tabs.

Thats the problem though Christine, too many parents are not keeping tabs on their kids. It seems like once they get to middle school everyone just gives up on the kids and it's a free for all! One thing I have really noticed as well is that the parents, once the kids get to middle school, feel it is the SCHOOL/TEACHERS job to RAISE THEIR children! Ummm nooooooo, hello.... it is YOUR job to raise them... it is THEIR job to ASSIST in EDUCATING them! I don't believe teachers should have to PARENT *MY* children! Teachers have enough on their plates, and now they are expected to be PARENTS to our children too?! UGH!

I swear this whole school/parents/teacher thing fires me up. So many irresponsible adults!

sorry to leave so abruptly before, my dh made me lunch and had to go eat. Isn't he just such a sweetie.

Yeah Laura, I hear ya. I think it helps me too, that my kids KNOW that they may have a choice but there WILL be consequences.

OK dang gotta run again for my YW Presidency meeting, or I should say "scoot". Finally broke down and got me one of those scooters and dang I am just quick now. LOL bbl

The minute two of Andrew's friends had driver's licenses (junior year in high school) their parents dropped their curfew AND if they did not want to come home at all, that was ok. Those same boys spent at least one night per week here this summer....they never called home and their parents never called checking up on them. I think that is so sad.

nooooo wayyyyy PQ. Seriously at 16!!!! That is INSANE! My oldest currently has a curfew of 10:30, which we are discussing moving to 11, on a non-school night, but I am a firm believer of nothing good ever happens after midnight.

So Tara I have a question for u. Which part of parents texting bugs you? is it the noise or is it the distraction? I will txt my girls but they just ignore me until lunch time etc and their phones are on silent. So I think nobody even knows and it is a quick and easy way to communicate. Just trying to get ur perspective from the other side.

Christine, I do this as well... it's like a 'reminder' system or a 'question system' for us. I've done it for several years, I don't think anyone has a clue, because their phones are off or on silent. I have told them before that if they get into trouble for having their phones out, then I'm taking their phones away and they will be sent back to the stone ages of finding a quarter and calling home when their ride isn't there on time... LOL!!!

I will admit though, when my daughter was being seriously bullied and she was an emotional mess over it all, I did let her text me WHENEVER she wanted. I didn't care if it was right in the middle of class, etc. I honestly didn't care. I told her (and I told the staff as well!) that if administration would do their job then she wouldn't have to text me, because their wouldn't be a problem to text about!! It was either be her life line when she needed it most, or perhaps find her dead someday. I chose to be her life line. That's what moms do. I don't care what anyone thinks about it. I encouraged her DAILY, EVERY SINGLE DAY, to "text me if you need me!!!". I would do it again in a heart beat.

Laura, we should change your user name to mama bear, although I think there are several of us who would fit in that category.
