Help with 20D

Hi. I have the 20D camera. Before that I had a Rebel Digital. I'm curious about cleaning the sensor. At the beginning I had great luck with the photos it produced, but slowly all my pics began to get blurry, unsharp, underexposed, etc. This happened with both of these digital cameras. I was beginning to think I'd just lost my touch with my photo taking abilities, but when I went back to my Canon Elan IIe and my Canon Rebel G, everything was PERFECT. Perfect sharpness, perfect lighting, perfect exposure (at least close to perfect! Can anyone tell me if this is JUST me, and that I'm not cut out for digital photography, or if I need to clean the sensor and if so, what do I need to know before I start. I've only had the camera for about 4 months.

Thanks, Kelly Sparks

Sorry Kelly I have no idea what sort of advice to offer you here, I also have the 20D have had it for about 10 months and haven't had anything like this happen.
Do your images like sharp through the view finder?

Do both cameras have removable lenses? Have you been changing lenses on the cameras?

I've heard about this problem. Yes, you do need to get something cleaned up, but I'm not sure what or how to do it. Take your cameras to a good camera store and ask there.

One of the reasons we've made the decision to go to our local (EXCELLENT) camera store is that DH has the Nikon SLR, and when we need help they will help us even though we didn't buy that camera from them. But we did buy mine from them.

I can't tell from what is on the web for Raymond. Do you have a sort of pink color cast on it?

Depending on what software you are using, and how good you are at it, consider using either Variations (which will let you see what adding a bit of several colors will look like) or Hue and Saturation.

As for the one of you and your brother, was it a color photo to begin with or was it hand tinted? 1972 is so early for color it could be either way.

If it was hand tinted turn it back into a black and white and use one of the coloring tutorials on it. If it was always color you want to get the color back. There is no easy fix for that, but your photos look like they are good enough that you should be able to get good results if you try some new techniques.

Go to google.com and do a search for Photoshop, tutorial, photo or Paint Shop Pro, tutorial, photo You will get pages of lists of tutorials that way and some of them will work for what you want to do.

Help!!!!!

Help please!! I am taking the home photography class here and was taking test shots today and after I finished and uploaded, I realized that I had accidentally moved the bracket wheel and overexposed all my shots by about 3 stops! Is there anything I can do? I have played around with them some but still too blown out. I posted to this gallery but not sure how to link them all here. Here is one. You can see the others I guess by clicking on my photos under my name? Thanks in advance for ANY help!!

The ones that are blown out would make wonderful layouts if you use techniques on them to make them look like you intended them to be that way. Look at all of the porcelain technique layouts we've had over the last few months. Some with color and some just black and white.

The ones that aren't blown out seem to have a color cast to them. Once again, you might make that a plus depending on what graphic technique you are using, or you might try some of the fixes out there on the Web for your software.

Sometimes the best layouts are made from less than perfect photos.

Thanks Starling for your suggestions. I will try playing around. I am still new to photoshop (CS) so still learning how to use it. I have noticed some of the neat effects people have been doing with some of their photos lately and I really like that "dreamy" look but had not learned how to achieve that yet but did think that 1 or 2 of my pictures "MIGHT" be able to pass off like I was attempting something like that. Just was not sure though. She was in such a cooperative picture taking mood the other day and since I got so many good shots, I just HATE that I will lose those!
Thanks,
Angie

I hope someone can help with this one!

http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com...Ruth-copy2.jpg

Well, a picture speaks a thousand words, and this one speaks volumes! All the levels are in need of adjustment, and even with my PS7, I am out of my league (read: newbie.) The subjects are too dark. Even when I mess with the parents/boys, the baby with the hood is still dark because of his little hoodie, and the background is then too light. I am not ready to crop or anything like that... just to get the levels right.

I hope someone can help me with this. Feel free to get your own hands on it, since as I stated, I am way out of my league! Thanks!

I think this one is better.

I didn't do too much, but this is fun to me. Beautiful picture. What a background. Where were you?

In PS CS there is an Adjustment available that takes care of back lit photos and does a great job of it. You get there by clicking Image - Adjustment - Shadow/highlight.

I don't know if it is there in PS 7. The photo you gave us is exactly the right kind of photo for this process and it is amazing. There are sliders, so you can tweak it, but the defaults do an excellent job most of the time.

Here is my attempt.

I created two levels with inverted layer masks. Adjusting the levels down on one layer and up on the other. Like this

The masks need more work, but it did not seem worth doing a lot of work on the small version of the image which provided this :

Thanks!

I know this was not an easy photo to work with. I will send all three to the photographer (it is her family in the pic, somewhere in Canada.) I appreciate your help. Every day I learn more about what a great place DSP is!
