Newbie in need of help!
I have just started playing around with digital scrapping using PSP 7. I have successfully created a few simple pages (one using the tutorial )
I have figured out pretty much most things but for the elements. Every time I try to add an element the black (or white) behind it shows up. The elements are .PNG files. For the life of me I can not figure out how to fix this!
I have been playing with this for 2 days now & I am about ready to just give digital scrapping up altogether!
Can anyone help walk me through this?
Thanks in advance!
Lisa

NO, no, no! Don't give! This is a common issue with PSP, and easy to fix.
Go to File>Preferences>File Format. Click the PNG tab, and click on the Load Transparency from Alpha Channel. If that's already selected, turn it off. Try opening the graphic again. If this doesn't work, or it's not in the same place for v7 (I use 8 and 9), post again. SOOOO many PSPers here to help you!!!
Welcome to DSP, keep it up!

Thank you for replying!
I tried what you suggested, here's what I have File>preferences> File Format Preferences or File Format extensions. I have tried both neither one gives me the option "Load Transperancy from alpha channel"
I am sure that this is a very easy fix but I can't figure it out! LOL!

Took a few minutes to take a screen shot of what you want, and just put it up as a tutorial. It's such a common question! Here you go

This is in v8, so if v7 is different, please post again to get some 7 users to weigh in. LMK how this works for you

Well..that explains why I am having so much trouble! In my PSP there is NO tab for PNG! The only tabs I have are: PCD, Postscript, RAW, WMF/Import.
Go figure! I have no clue as to why I don't have a tab for png!
On a brighter note...I went & downloaded a free trial of PSP 9 & was able to paste a element into a layout! LOL! I did have to change it but once I did it worked! YEA!!!
Ok, now how do I explain to dh that I REALLY HAVE to have this program? Any suggestions on that??
Thanks SO much for your help!

I've never used PSP7, but I think I read that after opening the PNG, you go to Selection>Load Selection>From Alpha Channel. The transparency should come up? It may just be a selection, and you have to delete. Try it out and see how it works
PSP 8 and 9 are a huge upgrade over PSP 7. The interface is different, lots of new tools. It's only about $50 to upgrade, and I think even v9 is a good upgrade from v8. I love the new Art Media Tools, the Resource Manager, and the History Palette especially.
We're full of questions and answers here: keep it up, and we'll keep answering!

THANK YOU! That worked. It's kind of a pain to have to do that every single time I need to add a element.
I am really enjoying PSP 9! (I have managed to create 3 very simple layouts so far today) I think I can convince dh that I need psp 9. Especially considering that he is trying very hard to convince me that his 69 camero has to have a new carberator & $1000+ in bodywork! LOL!
(I think my hobby is cheaper)
Again, thanks SO much for your help!

Thank you for starting this thread. I had the exact same question and it was suggested I search the forums on this topic. And you're right. It worked! Yay us!

Glad to help LOL!
As silly as it sounds I was close to tears because I couldn't not figure it out! That is why I had given up on digital scrapping before... for this same reason! I almost gave up again! A friend of mine suggested coming here & asking, she said that the ladies here are all so helpful.
Did you get it to work? If not I'd be happy to help if I can. After all I spent 2 days trying to figure it out & played with a lot of settings & tools!

I did get it to work. And I so understand about the frustration. i've only been here a couple days and this place is great.
Here's my first, it's not wonderful or anything, but I actually completed it without throwing up my hands. Thanks!

you can get a keyboard shortcut for loading the alpha channel, it's a pain to do for every single one.
Try View>Customize>Keyboard tab, and then go to the Selection menu and find what you need in there, and assign a shortcut like Ctlr-Alt-L for load or F2 or something else easy to remember...then just hit that after opening the file and it'll be "naked!"

Riyallyn,
That's a great first layout!! I am trying to figure out how to attach my first layout here but it tells me that my file is too large. Ugh! I don't think I am in the mood to try to figure this one out!
