PSE 7.0 and scanner don't like eachother

Hi, I'm trying to get PSE 7.0 to recognize my older scanner. I never installed the scanner to my new computer because I couldn't find the driver cd. However lo and behold I found it yesterday, but PSE 7.0 still tells me it can't find the twain file even though it's there in the windows file.

Any ideas?

And thanks!

You say older scanner ... have you looked on line for updated drivers? What scanner is it, and what operating system do you have?

Is it PSE7 that doesn't recognise it, or your computer? When I got a new Vista computer about two and a half years ago, I had to get a new scanner because the old one refused to work with it, despite many emails to help lines and downloading new drivers etc. Just gave up in the end and got a new one which works fine.

It's an Epson Perfection 640U. I did download drivers and it goes through it's install process and says it's there, but when I try to import into PSE I just get an error message saying that there is not a twain file in the windows twain folder.

I don't have that model Epson..

I have an Epson V500 - I have the option to set up my scan to my desktop - then I open the files into Photoshop..

Can you do that?

Or like Kathleen says - can you go to the epson site for an updated driver for your scanner>

Sketchy, does it come with "native" scanning software? Something from Epson? Wondering if it is PSE issue, an OS issue, etc. You might also make sure you have whatever updates are available for PSE.

Another thought, you might try something like IrfanView (http://www.irfanview.com/) rather than PSE if you don't have some other scanning software.

I have PSE 8, and could never get it to directly scan. An easy work-around for me was to use PAINT (start>all programs>accessories folder>paint). It is a very basic program included with every PC, but it scans amazingly well. You can adjust the resolution to from 72-1200 (at least on my computer). I just scan to a Scanned Photos folder. Then I open the scanned image in PSE. It really goes quickly, and works effectively.
