Unhappy PSP and PNG files?

HI I was really excited when I saw the tut for using png files in PSP. I hve PSP 8, I went to the files, preferences, file format tab...then to pgn tab, and I have the allow button checked...but my files STILL open with the white bg...can anyone help my out?? SO frustrating! Thanks!!

Are you opening files you created or ones from a kit? If you create a png file you must use the "File, Export, PNG Optimizer" - you cannot simply tell it to save as a PNG file. And if you do this, you must look at the second tab to make sure it is saving an alpha channel transparency instead of "no transparency."

I've saved PNG files in older versions of PSP where you had to create a mask for the transparent area and save it to the alpha channel of the photo. When these are opened, you then go to Layers, Load Mask from Alpha Channel - and your white area will become transparent. You can then merge visible layers.

Emma posted something on another thread a week or so ago. I'll see if I can trace it. I was having exactly the same problem. Not quite sure what I did to get it right but I suspect it was to uncheck/check an option that I'd inadvertantly selected sometime in error.

I haven't had problems since.

Fire, if you open the image that you want, it will look pretty bad. Now just go up to Masks. Once that is open click on "load from alpha channel and click ok or yes...depanding on the PSP version you have. Voila...you should be good to go. Good luck and let me know if this helps you.

It doesn't work in PSP7, but someone kindly sent me screen shots for that which I lost when my HD crashed! I need to have her send them again, hopefully she saved them
