How about backgrounds in any of the colors that look embossed. Each could have a different pattern like the circles in the inspiration photo (dots, gride, etc). That way we could have a little texture without having overwhelming/busy backgrounds.

I like this idea

cool papers!
-circle frames with depth like the rings in the pic, either separate or three grouped in various sizes joined together (in a triangular shape)
-some mesh
-a plastic piece (like the kind that hold soda cans together?) with smallish holes like the yellow circle with the Childrens Museum writen on it
-some colored plastic round disc tags

How about a green cattle gate, in the color of Raphne's photo. With perspective, to be used on the left, with foreground largest, receding into the back. You know, so you can have it open to allow the *masses* to enter. Too specific? Well, I still want one.

Wonderful idea, Crys!!!
How about a set of interlocking brightly colored gears?
I'm thinking about these; they have several sets at various places at the museum and I think they'd be fun elements; something a little different:
Maybe some fun, colorful, cartoony critters, like:
geometric shapes in bold colors, maybe with dimension to some of them (I mean, not flat, but with a curved or peaked top surface)
a scatter of bright balls or beads
So many fun options: maybe a set of bright sunglasses, a safari hat, a bucket and shovel. . . I like the pop can ring and the mud puddle and grass ideas too!
